Welcome aboard as Captain Steve Hawchuk recounts the glory days aboard the M.S. Paddlewheel Queen – and other vessels – plying Winnipeg’s historic Red River. Those riverboats brought romance and glamour to Manitoba’s waterways to over 2.7 million passengers, then, like a dream, they were gone. This book will take you on a journey through those joyful and often rollicking times during his 44 years on the river. Every reader will find something in the book to stir their emotions (you will laugh, cry and laugh some more!). This funny, high gloss-paged book - filled with many photos - will be a keepsake and make a valuable gift to anyone who has ever been on the boats or who is interested in their history….and given that Father’s Day is just around the corner, this would be a perfect gift for him!The captain’s memoirs include everything from treating royalty and celebrities on the boats, to couples kissing in the moonlight, rock and roll cruises, fisticuffs, and picnic tables flying off the top deck. Get ready for one last wild ride on Winnipeg’s famous riverboats.

Capt. Steve Hawchuk is an 85-year-old ‘super senior’ who just completed his first book reminiscing his years on the Mighty Red. Steve was born in 1938 in Malartic, Quebec, but within a few months of his birth his family uprooted and moved to St. Peter’s, Manitoba and planted themselves on a beautiful farm along the Red River. Steve’s love for the water stemmed from childhood and has grown over time. So much so that he and his brother purchased the Paddlewheel Queen and Paddlewheel Princess in 1969, allowing Steve to embark in a nautical career on the water he so fondly loved. While his brother became a dentist, Steve became a captain…and the rest they say is history! Steve resides in West St Paul, Manitoba – still living along the Red River - with his wife Esther (also a captain) and their (special needs) daughter Javan.
