In this 10th Anniversary Edition, Shonda Rhimes, executive producer of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte, and more, not only revisits her galvanizing New York Times bestseller but gives fans an extraordinary cache of brand-new stories that showcase the continuing power that saying YES has had on her life.
In Shonda’s own words: “This book is the same as before, but it also is not. It is brand-new. It has changed. Transformed. Evolved. Grown. Just like me.”
In 2015, Shonda Rhimes, the trailblazing creative force behind some of television’s most beloved series, took on a challenge that would change her life forever. She decided to say yes to everything for a year, and the results were exhilarating. Hailed as “honest, raw, and revelatory” (The Washington Post) and “as fun to read as Rhimes’s TV series are to watch” (Los Angeles Times), Year of Yes quickly became a New York Times bestseller, captivating readers everywhere and inspiring them to undertake their own YES journeys.
In this celebratory and expanded anniversary edition, you’ll find more wildly candid and transformational chapters that reveal how the mega-talented Shonda, once a self-described introvert, achieved badassery worthy of a Shondaland character—and how you can, too.

“Brilliant…a peek into Rhimes' wise, funny, surprisingly candid brain, which contains opinions on everything from accepting compliments and balancing showrunning with single motherhood to, yes, the recent weight loss that's been (unfairly) making the most headlines. By the end of journey in The Year of Yes, you'll feel like you've gained a new best friend.” —Women & Hollywood/ Indiewire.com

Living My Year of Yes
"Just loved her style of writing, she grew up before our very eyes. She had a supportive family and friends except one. She transformed herself from turning down invites and speaking engagements to saying Yes for Commencements, Yes for TV programs. She became a Better Mom, Better Friend and a much more likeable person. I am Living my Best Life in My Year of Yes!"

So Relatable
"I read this in just a few days! The writing is so enjoyable to read but her issues and stories are so relatable I found myself a lot in the pages. I've been a big fan of all of her shows and had no expectations for the book but she did not disappoint I thoroughly enjoyed it! Good pick for a book club!"

A little disappointed
"The concept of the book was great- saying yes to your fears, putting yourself out there, doing more things with and for your friends and family etc. and how that can be rewarding. Shonda Rhimes was also very relatable and open about her fears which I really liked. However, the book could have been written in half the length because there was a lot of over dramatization and repetition, sometimes in a fun way but it was done so often that it became redundant and even annoying sometimes. I found myself skipping over paragraphs because they seemed to repeat the same idea over and over. There was a lot of wit, humour and entertainment but it was mingled with distasteful, over the top dramatization. I also think that the writing lacked the balance between entertainment and substance that really good autobiographies have. I wouldn't recommend it."

Loved this Book!
"I picked this book up on a whim, and I'm so glad I did. . . Shonda writes with a style that completes reflects her personality; it's easy to read, it's funny, it's touching, it's relatable. . . I loved it, and would totally recommend it to anyone who's feeling a little 'stuck' in their life. . ."

Biggest disappointment
"How this book has a 4. 5 star rating here is beyond me and believe me, I also did not expect to give this book just one star. . . When I saw that Shonda ""Queen-of-my-TV"" Rhimes had written a book, one that was meant to be inspirational no less, I was absolutely thrilled! Sadly, it was a disappointment pretty much right from the start. While I can often overlook the writing style of a book (I know you can't be everyone's cup of tea) the content has to be good and/or interesting. I really did want to be inspired - truly, madly, deeply - but all I got was poorly-written, self-indulgent, non-humble-braggy drivel. There were maybe 5 inspirational sentences among the 5000 name drops. Yes, we know that Ellen Pompeo & Kerry Washington work for you. And that you own Thursday night television. WE GET IT! I do want to get one thing straight - I am not trying to diminish her accomplishments. Hell no. But her tone and the attitude that came across in this book (to me at least) was a complete turn off from Shonda herself. No, I won't stop watching her shows - present or future - because they stand on their own merits and she *is* a brilliant TV writer/producer. But I'm definitely no longer interested in her as a human being."

meh
"I was excited to read this book after all the hype it received, as well as it featuring a promising concept (and coming from an experienced writer). . . but I was disappointed. Rhimes' book was less of a story about her year of trying new things and more of a sassy, disjointed monologue about several topics pertaining to her life. I found the writing slightly condescending in moments and almost like she was dumbing it down for the reader. There are some fun anecdotes that are relatable, but not enough to make me gush over the book. Overall, though I was hoping to come away from it as a 'must-read' title, I would not recommend this to anyone as a life-changer. Maybe I need to lower my expectations and stick to her TV shows. #plumreview"
