"I really enjoyed Project Hail Mary. The science was fun, the pacing kept me hooked, and the relationship at the heart of the story ended up being my favourite part. It has a lot of humour, a lot of heart, and some genuinely emotional moments. That said, one major plot point kept bothering me after I finished the book. Without spoiling anything, the story introduces a really big ethical and psychological question late in the book, but it never really explores it. For me, it wasn’t the choice itself that was the problem, my issue was that something with such huge implications is introduced, and then the story mostly moves on as if it doesn’t fundamentally change the characters involved. It left me feeling like one of the most interesting ideas in the entire book was used to move the plot forward instead of being explored. That’s disappointing because the rest of the book is so thoughtful and well put together that I expected more from it. Even with that criticism, I’d still recommend reading it. The story is creative, funny, surprisingly touching, and absolutely worth experiencing. I just couldn’t shake the feeling that it stopped one conversation right when it was getting interesting."
