This book was fantastic.

"This book was fantastic. I didn’t know what I was looking to get out of it - and it was WAY MORE than I bargained for. It has humour, deep sadness, life lessons, career stories and leadership advice… All packed into 150 pages. As a female leader myself, I have a deep appreciation for the insight within this book. It was also an opportunity to learn about struggles I was not familiar with in indigenous communities which I’m very grateful to travel with that knowledge. Truly a pleasure to read."

More than a Memoir

"Breaking Trail is a powerful memoir of trauma, healing, and resilience from Lee-Ann O’Brien, Deputy Chief of Police and proud member of the Fishing Lake First Nation. With unflinching honesty, O’Brien shares her journey through childhood trauma, her rise in policing, and the long road of reclaiming voice and purpose as an Indigenous woman and leader. What sets this book apart is O’Brien’s ability to weave together lived experience, cultural identity, and professional insight into a story that is both deeply personal and universally inspiring. Her reflections move beyond hardship into hard-won strength, offering readers not only a testimony of survival, but a roadmap for leading with courage and heart. More than a memoir, Breaking Trail is a call to resilience and authenticity. It challenges readers to face their own terrain with honesty, to embrace healing, and to lead with compassion in every walk of life."
