Reviews

Dune redux

"Truly excellent novel that changed the way SF is written. I re-read recently after having read this as a teenager over 50 years ago, and my appreciation of the characters and plotline has only increased. A very good way to think through the recent Villeneuve movie version."

Absolute cinema

"The mfs ride big ol worms. What can I say, peak fiction"

"Book :3"

Patrick (4/5)

Classic must read SciFi

"I have read this book several times, as it is easily one of the best science fiction books ever written. I remember reading a lot of 60's SciFi and a lot of it feeling dated. While Dune does not escape this entirely, I was shocked with how current it felt. I loved some of the themes on planetary destruction to facilitate trade of spice, I loved the coming of age story, and just the deep immersion of the Dune universe. Amazing story that I recommend to anyone."

Geoffrey (5/5)

Loved this book

"What a fun read, I loved the story, I loved the world. It felt pretty fast paced at the end compared to all the set up from the beginning but I suppose that’s alright. I like the interconnectedness of it all and I love that it inspired so much of later sci-fi. Rip Leto II we didn’t know you long but it is what it is I guess. I’m interested in seeing what they do in the next book!"

Kate (5/5)

Good

"Husband bought this he wanted to read, hasnt read it much so far hut he seems interested in it."

TMJM (4/5)

Riveting

"Genuinely a very enthralling read, very fast paced political dynamics, and a weird magnify glass to the start of a downfall. Throughly enjoyed"

Jess (5/5)

Movie

"Great book if you haven’t read it, if you watch the movie read the book"

Frank Herbert is the bestselling author of the Dune saga. He was born in Tacoma, Washington, and educated at the University of Washington, Seattle. He worked a wide variety of jobs—including TV cameraman, radio commentator, oyster diver, jungle survival instructor, lay analyst, creative writing teacher, reporter and editor of several West Coast newspapers—before becoming a full-time writer.

In 1952, Herbert began publishing science fiction with “Looking for Something?” in Startling Stories. But his emergence as a writer of major stature did not occur until 1965, with the publication of Dune. Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune followed, completing the saga that the Chicago Tribune would call “one of the monuments of modern science fiction.” Herbert is also the author of some twenty other books, including The White Plague, The Dosadi Experiment, and Destination: Void. He died in 1986.
