In an alternate 1937 where Florida is an independent nation and the Civil War never happened, Jim Crow rules The South. The Confederacy has enacted Prohibition to damage the powerful economy of its neighbor to the south. Florida responds with a fleet of rumrunners guarded by piston-engine fighter planes.
Maggie O'Rourke, former air racer and second-in-command of Marsh Hen Squadron, knows she's the best pilot with the best plane, the Curtiss Hawk, and she's going to make sure the Confederates know it too.
But Benjamin Walker, colonel, Klansman, and self-styled father of Confederate aviation is happy to take up Maggie's challenge. He's found a new ally in Nazi Germany.
When the Nazis send Walker a squadron of cutting-edge Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter planes, Maggie finds herself out-manned, and out-gunned. She's fought too hard to earn her place in the cockpit and she's not going to let Walker take it from her.
