Touching Story

"This is a touching story of Kenzie dealing with her mother’s health issues through the seasons, following the changing cycles of Kenzie’s newly planted tree. The changing landscape is a fitting backdrop for Kenzie’s changing emotions through a difficult time. Beautiful book!"

Beautiful Story!

"What a beautiful and well-written story! My students enjoyed this and it led to a very meaningful conversation afterwards. Kenzie promises to keep her small and fragile tree cozy and safe. This poetic image is reflected in Kenzie and her mom staying strong and safe, while mom experiences chronic illness. Kenzie's world is full of wonderful images that illustrate the season's changing. It's a heart-warming story that highlights the strength of a family and leaves us with a strong sense of hope. A book to be enjoyed by all children, and great for both classroom and home libraries."

J. B. (5/5)

A heartwarming story!

"The tree that Kenzie plants with her family feels as fragile as her mom, who doesn’t feel well. When mom goes to the hospital, Kenzie hopes both her tree and mom will heal. A heartwarming story that pairs plant care with chronic illness in a sensitive, accepting way."

Great book for Teachers!

"I recommend this book to all primary and junior teachers. As a fellow educator the themes of empathy and resilience shine through in a story that touches the heart. There are few books for young children like this which deal with parental illness and how it affects the family. There is rich vocabulary, illustrations that capture the feelings of the characters and many literary devices like similes and metaphors that young readers can be exposed to. Ms. McGauley's website offers an easy to use Teacher's Guide that touches on many curriculum areas including plants and the four seasons. Everyone, young and old, will find this book a real treasure!"

Beautiful book for reading to kids

"This book is so special to me. I'm a mother of daughters, and I have a chronic illness, so this really spoke to me. I wish it was around when my girls were little, but instead it's for my little nieces. It's so well written and illustrated, and perfect for story time, bed time, and reading over and over again because the kids love it so much."
