Slow spiral

"Thank you to ECW Press and River Street Writes for hooking me up with a copy to read and review. I was sold at horror and this gorgeous cover, I love it. Unfortunately, for me the story wasn’t quite to my liking. I think I saw the cover and read horror and blacked out after that. I didn’t even know this was a theatre themed book until I was reading it. Which I’m not a they’re person but I have friends who do it and I go see their shows, so I didn’t realize the competition it is. I found the first half of the story quite dry, we are following our main character, Jessamyn who has been cast as an under study for the sound of music and as the story goes on we learn why and how much of a delusions character she is. The second half of the novel she starts to unwind and drastically so and she will do anything to be at the centre of that stage and the show will go on no matter what. I do think a lot of readers will how this is was mainly the pacing for me and that I’m not a big theatre person that lessened the rating for me."

Really enjoyed this one

"Loved this book! I was drawn in by the title and the promise of a dark twist on ambition, and it definitely delivered. A gritty portrayal of the extremes people will go to for fame combined with moments of sharp wit that made me laugh out loud. Think Means Girls and American psycho, but set to a musical. Definitely recommend."

As unhinged as it gets!

"I love a book with an unhinged main character and boy did this book ever deliver on that! Dark, witty and grabbed me from the start, you won’t want to put this one down. Definitely recommend!"

Great Read

"Really funny and dark story. A neurotic woman completely unravelling, and like a car crash you can't look away."

Simon40 (5/5)

Loved it!

"A love letter to (musical) theatre, the likes of Mona Awad’s All’s Well or M. L Rio’s If We Were Villains (both of which I adore), fever dreamy and delusional à la Black Swan. And funny! Look it up, pick it up! It’s a trip!"

Fascinating Characters

"I couldn't put this book down!! The reader is given a front row seat to the unraveling of Jessamyn. This is a rollercoaster read taking unexpected turns from start to finish."

Ngreg (5/5)

Great read!

"Grab your coffee, cozy up and get ready for an entertaining and humorous read! I absolutely LOVE this book! Bonus points for supporting a Canadian author! Will not disappoint!"

Must read

"Highly recommended. Never read a character that I loved to hate so much."

Relatable yet shocking

"Hambrock creates a villain that is in all of us. Some of us can’t sing but we sure can act!"

Carnal (5/5)

Wow what a book

"I loved this read! Couldn’t put it down. The main character is just crazy."
