A former antique hunter investigates the suspicious death of her estranged mentor at an isolated English manor and is drawn back into the dangerous world of repatriating stolen artifacts in this irresistible mystery debut for fans of Richard Osman.
Freya, it’s up to you to finish what I started…
Freya Lockwood has avoided the quaint English village where she grew up for the last twenty years. That is, until her eccentric Aunt Carole breaks the news that Arthur Crockleford, antiques dealer and Freya’s estranged mentor, has unexpectedly died.
Then Freya receives a letter from Arthur, sent just days before his death, warning her that she is in danger. Suspecting he may have been murdered, she and Carole begin to investigate. When they discover Arthur’s journals and an invitation to an antiques enthusiasts’ weekend, Freya finds herself pulled back into a life she swore to leave behind.
Once more Freya is on the hunt. Following the clues and her rusty antique hunting instincts, she and Carole attend the retreat at an old manor where all is not as it seems. The antiques are bad reproductions, and the other guests are menacing and secretive.
Can Freya and Carole solve the mystery before the killer strikes again?

Promising Start . . . But Left Disappointed
"""""The Antique Hunter's Guide to Murder"""" had all the best ideas to make it a very promising murder mystery novel, including a very intriguing prologue that captured this reader's attention. Unfortunately, as the story progressed, it devolved into a rather slapstick kind of mystery -- the kind you would see in a 30-minute TV program with a cheesy or rather over-the-top ending -- with an aunt figure who is used for comedic relief, bland two-dimensional characters, and a rather annoying tendency to constantly hint at a disturbing past and saving the details for far too long, much like a parent swoops a spoonful of food towards a baby's mouth like an airplane only to withhold it to get a giggle out of an otherwise unimpressed child. In short, the baby is left unsatisfied much like how this reader hoped for better."

Good story
"The story arc was great I loved the side characters but the main character was difficult to like. She was wallowing in her pain and kept reminding us over and over that something bad happened in Egypt so by the time you find out you don’t care."
— Miranda (4/5)
Love a great mystery with an interesting angle!
"An engaging whodunit with Interesting characters . Loved the personal angle of the author who is well informed on the subject of antiques. I enjoyed it so much I pre-purchased the next installment!"

""""What antique would you kill for?""""
"I know nothing about Antiques, but this book was quite the catch. C. L. Miller has written a delightful novel where the search for antiques and murders collide. Along the way we meet a set of characters who help tell this story; Freya, our lead protagonist, her Aunt Carole, and her semi-grandfather Arthur who was Freya's antique dealer mentor. After learning about Arthurs's demise and deeming it fishy, Freya and Carole are on the hunt to figure out what all the clues lead to and what Arthur is trying to tell her from beyond the grave. The mystery takes us to an English Manor, and we are joined by a shady group of characters who are all trying to find the valuables that appear to be hidden in the house. Nobody is as they appear, and everyone is suspect as the group meets for a weekend gathering where all things are hopefully going to be resolved. A very well plotted book with believable characters, this is a fast paced book that is easy to read and hard to put down."

The title grabbed my attention right away.
"Checks all the boxes for a good, cozy murder mystery with the added flair of antiques hunting as the backdrop."
— Cj G. (5/5)
It didn’t catch me
"I was expecting a thriller that I wouldn’t stop reading but it didnt really catch me"

Enjoyable characters - want another!
"I enjoyed both the mystery and the characters in this book. The humble, self-doubting mother that is the protagonist was very relatable, her eccentric Aunt was so fun, and the mysterious side characters all had personalities of their own. It made me want to me an antique hunter! I'd love to read a follow-up in this series."
— Danielle (5/5)
Complicated, but well written.
"A bit of a complicated Plot meant to set up a series."
— Trace (3/5)
