Reviews

An enjoyable read that sheds light on how life is in other parts of the world.

"I bought this book for a young girl in Grade 6 who was not motivated to read. After we read two chapters together I was pleasantly surprised that she finished the book within the next week on her own and was eager to discuss the story with me."

"Deep and moving. Great to help young people see outside of the world they live in."

Bobb (5/5)

An emotional rollercoaster

"This book was an emotional rollercoaster full of tears and joy. Paravane’s journey of becoming the families breadwinner after her father was sent away has been quite challenging for her and her family. The author made Paravane’s story so interesting. This book has a lot of amazing messages and shows how important it is for us to recognize things that other people or countries are going through."

Deli (5/5)

Great for a 8 year old!

"My 8 year old niece loved this book! She had not yet seen the movie, but that didn’t seem to matter."

Whole Family Read

"This series by Deborah Ellis was well loved by our family. It made us laugh, and cry and think in a more empathetic way. It connected us to Afganistan and taught us about the history, geography and culture. It helped my children to have insight into the trials other children face and provoked engaging family discussions."
