Amazing author

"The story held me captive I couldn't put the book down."

Cindy (5/5)

4. 5 Stars! Complex, intense, and gripping!

"The Heiress is a charged, unpredictable mystery that sweeps you away to North Carolina and into the life of Camden McTavish, who are receiving an email from an estranged cousin, reluctantly heads home after ten years away to deal with the inheritance he never wanted, introduce his wife to the dysfunctional, multigenerational McTavish family he willingly disowned, and finally discover all the long-buried secrets that his adopted mother, the infamous Ruby McTavish tried for a long time to keep hidden and buried for good. _x000D_ _x000D_ The prose is powerful and polished. The characters are flawed, self-absorbed, and ruthless. And the plot, using a mixture of letters, news articles, and dual perspective narration, is a captivating, menacing tale of life, loss, secrets, deception, privilege, resentments, greed, corruption, violence, familial drama, surprises, and despicable truths. _x000D_ _x000D_ Overall, The Heiress is a gritty, provocative, twisty novel by Hawkins that’s a must-read for anyone who loves a well-written mystery interlaced with a dramatic family saga all mired in the dark, toxic history of the past."

Family dysfunction, secrets and deception - oh MY!

"Heiress Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodward Miller Kenmore has had more than her fair share of marriages, deception and familial angst. She adds to her family's dysfunction when, upon her death, she leaves her vast fortune to her adopted son Cam instead of the rest of her family who have been eagerly anticipating her death. Ain't family great?_x000D_ _x000D_ This was an entertaining story about family, secrets and lies that has some good twists and scandal. The story is told using three POVs - the dead heiress Ruby through letters from the past, Cam and Cam's wife, Jules and the story alternates between the past and present. My favourite POV was Ruby who is a fascinating character with a unique past, a handful of dead husbands, secrets and snarky humour. _x000D_ _x000D_ There's a gothic vibe with the old, reclusive family mansion setting, but the strength of this story is in its slow burn but well-paced storytelling, its entertainingly shady characters and a few good twists (even though I saw one of the big twists immediately). _x000D_ _x000D_ This domestic drama/suspense story is filled with family dysfunction, deception and greed that is an entertaining, escapist kind of read - a perfect pick to be one of your first reads of 2024."

"A twisty, twisted tale." —AARP

"Hawkins does an excellent job keeping readers off-balance throughout. Nonstop twists and surprises make this a true thrill ride…a delicious tale of murder, greed, and the ties that bind." —Publishers Weekly

"Rachel Hawkins delivers another read-in-a-sitting knockout. The Heiress has it all—murder, secrets, Gothic vibes, and one of the most deliciously twisted families ever put to page. I loved it!" —Riley Sager, New York Times bestselling author of The Only One Left

"Featuring unreliable narrators and twists throughout, Hawkins' latest continues her reign as the queen of slow-burn domestic thrillers. This is a page-turner that readers will find hard to put down and is perfect for fans of stories with ambiguous morals and dysfunctional families." —Booklist

PRAISE FOR THE VILLA:

"Flashing between past and present, Hawkins weaves an engrossing tale about betrayal, sisterhood, and the power of telling your own story. Captivating!" —People

"Hawkins brilliantly stitches together past and present, deftly luring readers into a deliciously dark tale. Everything about The Villa is pitch-perfect, again proving that Hawkins is the reigning queen of suspense." —Heather Gudenkauf, New York Times bestselling author of The Overnight Guest

"The Villa teems with sexual tension, festering tempers, and questionable friendships. Hawkins' latest thriller reminds us that writers cannot always be trusted—and certainly not the tales they tell." —Sarah Penner, New York Times bestselling author of The London Séance Society
