Best cookbook I own and best gift to that hunter you know.

"I can't rave enough about this cookbook. Michael Hunter truly knows his stuff when it comes to wild game and harvesting, and cooking. As an avid cook, I can confidently say this is the best cookbook I own. The recipe for stock at the beginning of the book is a game-changer—it provides enough pints to make every recipe in the book, and the proportions are perfect. Unlike most cookbooks, which often offer a piecrust recipe but leaves you with way more than you need, this one thoughtfully sets up the perfect amounts, making every dish a success. The food this book helps you create is incredible too. It’s elevated my cooking to five-star level, and I honestly feel like I’m dining at his Michelin restaurant when I follow its recipes. Our favourite is the Roast Venison Rack and Neck Ragout with Spice Ash and Parsnip Purée. This really highlights using the whole animal, which resonates with themes from my community. Wonderful cookbook! Recommended for all hunters and the partners who are left with all of the meat to prepare…"

Great cookbook for hunters or local eating recipes.

"Excellent layout and photos for easy recipe reading. Plus reads in between about the ingredients (game) and how to’s. About foraging and hunting. This was a gift and my father is an avid hunter. He Loves this book. And the recipes range for easy/simple to medium complexity."

One of Eat North’s “favourite Canadian culinary books of 2020”

Praise for The Hunter Chef Cookbook:

“[A] profound read that dispels common myths and misconceptions on the art of hunting for food, how the differences between trophy hunters and those who are putting food on the table is as vast and deep as the ocean. Hunter draws deeply from his decades-old experiences to bring awareness of the importance of sustainability and wild game hunting, along with proper foraging and fishing.”
Calgary Sun

“I recognized that Michael Hunter knows what he is talking about the minute I opened this book. Hunter is the kind of guy—and the kind of work—that you get when you combine passion, creativity, inventiveness, and elbow grease. This book makes me hungry, and Michael Hunter makes me proud to be a hunter and angler.”
Steven Rinella, outdoorsman, host of the TV series and podcast MeatEater, and author The MeatEater: Fish and Game Cookbook

“In The Hunter Chef Cookbook, we can learn the real value of nature from a master in foraging, fishing, and hunting.”
—Alex Atala, award-winning chef, restauranteur, and author of D.O.M.: Rediscovering Brazilian Ingredients

“Michael Hunter is one of Canada’s leaders in drawing awareness to the importance of wild game and cooking sustainably across our country.”
—Jeremy Charles, chef, restauranteur, and author of Wildness: An Ode to Newfoundland and Labrador

“Hunter gatherer, hunter naturalist, hunter chef—the perfect ingredients for both culinary freedom and a purity of life that so many people are searching for in today’s mass produced world. In The Hunter Chef Cookbook, Michael Hunter shows us the pathway to delicious and wholesome living. We just need to follow his lead and cook his inspiring recipes.”
—Jim Shockey, award-winning outdoor writer, TV producer and host, and wilderness guide and outfitter
