It suggests the reason for his quest

"This must be the ultimate birding story for all time. The canoe journey through lakes Erie and Ontario and down the St Lawrence is fascinating and the hike across northern Quebec is grueling but all of this journey pales in contrast with the canoe journey through Labrador and Arctic Quebec. He describes parts of our country most will be unfamiliar with and is consistently engagingand frequently humorous. Like a canoegoing through rapids, reading is fast-paced and filled with adventure begging that another section be read. The book is well written and puts Shoalts' other titles on my list of books ""to buy"""

An excellent read from my favourite adventurer!

"I am a big Adam Shoalts fan. What I love about this latest book is all of the history he incorporates into each place he passes. I also love the little interactions with people along the route which doesn't happen as much in his other adventures, he even has pictures in there from someone he met along the way. I have also come to really enjoy his dry sense of humour. I actually laughed out loud a few times in this one. All in all, an excellent read. He just keeps getting better at telling his stories!"

"I've read all but one of Shoalts' books, & loved them all. He puts himself through dangers of dehydration, food depravation, bear & other animal attacks, wind, cold, ice, snow that can kill. . . yet still he remains filled with all the wonders of his wilderness adventures. Where the Falcon Flies was particularly enjoyable because I drove along the St Lawrence from outside of Ottawa to Baie Comeau, up highway 389, across Labrador while reading the book & pretending we were traversing the same routes at the same time!! Beyond fun. I admire this young man."

“For most of us, the expression “as the crow flies”—or, in this case, peregrine falcon—is usefully descriptive. Not so for adventurer-historian Shoalts. . . .”
The Globe and Mail

“An exceptionally fine writer as well as adventurer, Shoalts knows how to keep you turning the pages, whisking you along, every paddle stroke of the way.”
National Outdoor Book Awards

“Epic. . . . fighting gale-force winds and plunging into freezing water . . . this trip was like no other.”
The Hamilton Spectator

“Adam Shoalts has famously explored the Arctic, created A History of Canada in Ten Maps, and now in Where the Falcon Flies, reveal[s] the interconnectedness between landscape and nature.”
Toronto Star

“A tremendous trek. . . . Shoalts has perpetually melded history, geography, anthropology, and storytelling to bring Canadians into his canoe. . . . the charity and kindness of complete strangers Shoalts meets along the way becomes an enduring theme in the book. It is inspiring to read how, in these days of great division in our society, a single adventurer paddling down a river or tromping down a logging road can bring out the best in people.”
—Winnipeg Free Press

“Adam Shoalts has hit the mark again with his latest book. . . . my favourite portion of Shoalts' writing is the way he stitches moments of Canadian history into his book. A high school kid can skip every history class, but still gain more knowledge just by reading Where the Falcon Flies.”
Kevin Callan, Explore Magazine

Where the Falcon Flies takes readers along, vicariously, on this incredible journey–prepare to be wowed!”
—Horizon Magazine

“Epic. . . . the adventure of a lifetime.”
—Global News
