THE BOOK BEHIND THE FOURTH SEASON OF THE ACCLAIMED HBO SERIES GAME OF THRONES
A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE: BOOK FOUR After centuries of bitter strife, the seven powers dividing the land have beaten one another into an uneasy truce. Few legitimate claims to the Iron Throne still exist, and the war that has turned the world into little more than a wasteland has finally burned itself out. Or so it appears. For it’s not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters of the Seven Kingdoms gather. Now, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces—some familiar, others only just appearing—emerge from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges of the terrible times ahead. Nobles and commoners, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and sages, are coming together to stake their fortunes . . . and their lives. For at a feast for crows, many are the guests—but only a few are the survivors.

“George R. R. Martin has created the unlikely genre of the realpolitik fantasy novel. Complete with warring kings, noble heroes and backroom dealings, it’s addictive reading and reflects our current world a lot better than The Lord of the Rings.”—Rolling Stone
“THE MOST impressive modern fantasy, both in terms of conception and execution, is George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. . . . A masterpiece that will be mentioned with the great works of fantasy.”—Contra Costa Times

Reviews
Enjoying the ride
"So good that I don’t even care that the series may never be finished. As time passes, the chances of Winds of Winter releasing gets slimmer, and A Dream of Spring even less likely. But it’s okay. I am having a lot of fun reading this series."

Great Book, Great Series
"I have been really enjoying the Song of Ice and Fire series. The books just get better and better the farther along you go. I had watched the HBO series long before I got into the books, and there are some significant differences between the books and the show. This book in particular has some really great story lines which weren't present in the TV series and which add so much to the world building and character building."

Not his best
"Martin really starts to fall apart with this entry in the series weaving too many storylines and separating the pacing, although reading from Cersei’s perspective is the highlight of the book."
— Leigh (3/5)

Must suffer through it!!
"I read through the 1000+ pages fairly quickly only because I knew my favourite characters awaited me in book 5. This book is only important for the general awareness of the story - the character development is fairly predictable, especially if you watch the show. #plumreview"
— Diana (4/5)
Still great
"Love this series and it is still great. I do agree with some other reviews that it is a bit slower in the start/middle of this book but picks up at the end. Can't wait to read the next"
