"Finally! A sassy and heartwarming board book to teach our children the alphabet of humane values. Innosanto Nagara knows that activism begins in the cradle, but to be sustainable, it has to be wide-ranging, deep-rooted, and based ultimately on a sense of fun and community. A is for Activist covers all this ground with a playful rhyming style that makes you want to turn the pages and read the book over and over again. The illustrations are so colorful, beautifully executed, little works of art in and of themselves. What a great book for children of all ages.Julia Alvarezauthor of A Wedding in Haiti: the Story of a Friendship and How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents

"Memorable, often humorous poems that teach the alphabet through activist political examples. Never too early to expose your children to justice." Viet Thanh Nguyen in Vulture.com

"Full of wit, beauty, and fun, we can think of no better way to learn the alphabet." —Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis, author of The Shock Doctrine /filmmaker

"Fun, funny, exquisitely illustrated and brilliantly written with a message that is sure to resonate with kids. May a thousand young activists bloom!" —Medea Benjamin, cofounder of Global Exchange and Code Pink

"I wish this beautiful and inspiring book was around when my daughter was young, but fortunately there were plenty of cool children around today who will devour what Inno is serving up!" —Dan Zanes, Grammy Award-winning artist of Catch that Train!

"The alliteration and rhymes have the rhythm and fun of standard ABC books, burrowing into little ears and prompting memorization and spontaneous recitation." YES! Magazine

"A is for Activist offers an opportunity for parents to explore their values with their children. At this time in history we need books for children that use words like justice, ally, freedom, and advocate." —Rona Renner, RN, parent educator, and host of Childhood Matters radio show

"A is for Activist speaks to the possibilities of change, of proactive parenting, of creating community, and of celebrating our collective histories. This book is rad!" —Tomas Moniz, writer/editor Rad Dad, a zine on radical parenting

“Reading it is almost like reading Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States, but for two-year olds—full of pictures and rhymes and a little cat to find on every page that will delight the curious toddler and parents alike.” —Occupy Wall Street

Great book

"Such a great book to show a young person about change."

Not for children, politically biased

"The description of this book does not say enough about it. It’s gets too political and is very biased towards socialism. My children do not need this way of life stuffed down their throats."

Ryan (1/5)

Description requires more details.

"I bought this book for my 2 yr old nephew's birthday. however, after receiving and reading, I decided not to gift this book any more. Intention is great for activism, racial and gender equality, co-op etc. but It got quite political. Did not realize it would speak about socialist political and militant group ""The Zapatista Army of National Liberation"". ."

Good message

"My 13 month old daughter really likes this book, but it's not my favourite book to read to her. I love the messages in this book, but the words don't flow nicely like other they do in other baby books. Basically, it's not a book that I want to read over and over again all day long, as my baby likes me to do lately! Also, I found this book to be priced too high compared to many other board books."

Laura (3/5)

Great message, but not designed for children.

"While I really like the message this book is trying to convey, it's not well designed as an alphabet book. Speaking as a librarian who does a lot of early reading support, there are a few things that concern me. One is the almost random swapping between upper and lower case letters which can confuse a early reader. Another is the inclusion of confusing sounds like H is for jicama, or J is for justicia which are likely to just make learning letter sounds harder and more frustrating for a child. It comes as a board book, but I wouldn't give it to a child until they're already becoming a confident reader."

Little Activists!

"I've given this book to many friends with new babies, and the parents love it. Teach them to be good involved humans while they're young!"

Lianne (5/5)

Great for making ""little activists""

"This book is awesome (though a little American, as it refers to American figures that elsewhere in the world, one might struggle to understand their historical impact). Highly recommend."

Mipiaceleggere (5/5)

Beautiful in it's messages and illustrations

"I bought this for my first child and it has been passed down through the family. A fabulously mindful book full of great lessons you can begin to discuss with your children."

INNOSANTO NAGARA's new-wave board books encourage children to grow up with confidence in themselves, and to be proactive children who are passionate about causes from environmental issues to LGBTQ rights and civil rights.
