A wonder-filled quest to understand everything that has happened in the history of the earth, from the Big Bang theory to the rise of civilization and beyond—revised to reflect the last two decades of scientific advancement.
How did we get from being nothing at all to where we are today? How did the age of the dinosaurs eventually give way to the age of the iPhone? In this completely revised update to the international phenomenon A Short History of Nearly Everything, Bill Bryson returns to answer these questions and many more.
Bryson brings a groundbreaking account of life itself to a new generation of readers and wonderers, as he takes subjects often passed off as boring and incomprehensible and renders them accessible, fascinating, and outright amusing to anyone who's ever wondered about the world around them. Introducing readers to a long list of the world's most impressive archaeologists, paleontologists, physicists, astronomers, anthropologists, and mathematicians—from their offices and laboratories to dig sites and field camps—Bryson embarks on a journey to discover answers to the biggest questions about the universe and ourselves.
A Short History of Nearly Everything 2.0 is a profoundly enlightening, surprisingly humorous, and charmingly clever adventure into the realm of human knowledge, as only Bryson can render it. His revamped Short History is a thrilling journey through time and space, and his writing will make readers both new and old see the world in a whole new way.

meh
"Bryson undoubtedly has both some charm and talent, but both, after an enthusiastic and intriguing beginning, are in short supply in this tedious and labored dog of a book. He plods on and on, an activity that was more amusing on the Appalachian Trail but is wasted and wasting in this vast accumulation of marginally related factoids. He piles detail upon detail like a man resolutely digging his own grave, and the bemused reader is beaten into a sort of verbal catalonia. I was engaged enough by the beginning to buy the rest, and I regret not having stopped myself at the sample. I suggest you not repeat my mistake."

My all-time favourite book
"I've had this book since 2008 when a teacher assigned us the prologue to read. It congratulated you, the reader, on making it to this point. Survival isn't easy and it's taken a combination of genetics, skills, and luck to get you to this point today. Suddenly my worldview was changed and a whole world of scientific discoveries and their histories was laid out for me. My life has changed so much in the past 9 years, but my love and appreciation for this book hasn't. I recommend it to everyone who is even a little curious about their world. It's written in an engaging and highly entertaining style, and not a sentence goes by without some new and interesting information being added. Buy this book, don't even think about it because you won't regret it."

Fun read!
"Fascinating review of nearly everything! However, it can get bogged down with too many details at times."
— Kate (4/5)
Fun, easy read
"I am currently half way through this book and I cannot put it down! The title is bang on, literally a short history of every aspect of science. Even if you are like me have read more than your average science related topics, you will learn something, guaranteed! HIs writing style is engaging and funny."

Are you human? Read this book!
"A friend recommended this book and I was trapped inside the pages after the first chapter. Not only does it educate you on our past but it helps gain some perspective on the grand scheme of things."
