A very unsettling premise

"Soren Johansson was a faithful Mormon all his life. So, when he dies, he is very surprised to wake up in hell. But this hell, takes place in a vast library where every book that could ever be written exists. Soren must find the exact story of his life amongst these pages, and he has an eternity to do so. This book came highly recommend by one of my favourite local bookstores. I was a little nervous going in because the concept of taking the thing you love the most and turning it into your literal hell is terrifying. It’s a deep philosophical fear I suppose, one that I tend to shut out and not think of. Books have always acted as an escape or freedom for me, so to turn it into a punishment… no thank you. I enjoyed this book, and it balances the horror, human nature and philosophy and morals just right. Because of its length I feel like some scenes were a tad rushed and it would have been nice to meet more side characters and explore even further into this scary scenario. The writing feels that of an intellectual writer, rather than a novel I want to pick up for a quick summer read. The concepts are heavy and some scenes are quite fear-inducing. I would highly recommend this novel to my horror reader buddies, but kind of prepare yourself. I didn’t have any visceral emotional reaction to it, but I know people who have. It is short and can basically be read in one sitting, which is a plus!"

a 108 page long existential crisis

"I had to sit with this one for a few days. I like going into books knowing little to nothing about them (I usually skip the summary), and since I’m new to horror, I was expecting something haunted, eerie, or gruesome—but this wasn’t that. It’s more of an existential kind of spooky, and the more I reflect on it, the more I think, yeah, that would be horrifying. It’s a quick read, something you could finish in one sitting—great for breaking out of a reading slump. Would I recommend it? Probably not. Did I enjoy it? I’m not sure. Was it terrifying? Absolutely."

Thought Provoking

"This book is spooky only in the way it gets you thinking. It is so deeply thought provoking that it feels a little disturbing. This is an afterlife that I would want absolutely no part in."
