“A sweeping tale set in an uncharted dark fantasy world. It encompasses the realities of war and a romance that fights for survival.”People

“SenLinYu’s debut is a doorstopper of a fantasy. . . . The superb worldbuilding and intricate plotline make this a must-read.”Kirkus Reviews

“In this high fantasy with very dark themes, SenLinYu weaves a tale of political intrigue with centuries of depth and nuance. Many readers will be . . . drawn into the complex morality of two broken people finding love during a war.”Booklist

“SenLinYu has created a vivid new universe. Alchemised made me remember what makes reading good fantasy so enjoyable.”The Atlantic

“A book that digs its teeth in like a starving wolf. It unsettles, it gnaws, and yet by the final page, I wanted to thank it for what it put me through. . . . In a genre often dominated by safe formulas, SenLinYu’s debut is a reminder that speculative fiction still has teeth and knows how to bite.”Grimdark Magazine

Caught the attention of a non Harry Porter Fan!

"When I first heard about this book being a fan fiction of Harry Potter, was like really! But I also understood that the author wanted this book to reach beyond the fans - which caught my attention to begin reading and must tell, loved the book! Wish it could be developed into an anime, would love to see how that adaption will look like. Coming to the plot, I like the way certain realistic scenarios about war, loss, sacrificial stories gone missing during wars, highlighting the good and bad of science experiments and lastly the love and friendships - all depicted well through this fiction novel!"

Top 5 of all time

Don't waste your time

"I’m going to start with the summary because it deserves to be said plainly: this book was a massive disappointment. Long, repetitive, emotionally manipulative, and somehow still hollow. I have a high tolerance for angst and melodrama, but this tested it. Nearly the entire book feels like wading through mud. You move forward, technically, but nothing actually progresses. Scene after scene follows the same pattern. She suffers. She overthinks. He broods. They circle each other. Repeat. The emotional beats never evolve, they just get louder. The trauma is relentless, but not in a way that deepens the story. It is stacked on top of itself so excessively that it loses all impact. After a while, you stop feeling anything because the suffering becomes predictable. When every chapter is trying to devastate you, none of them actually do. The characters are described endlessly, but never embodied. We are told how intense their connection is, how consuming their love is, how broken they both are, but we are not allowed to experience any of it in an organic way. The bond is explained instead of shown. The devotion is declared instead of demonstrated. It reads less like two people falling in love and more like a thesis statement about how tragic they are supposed to be. And the romance. Calling it epic feels generous. It is two deeply wounded people clinging to each other while actively refusing to confront their own internal damage. There is self abandonment framed as sacrifice. Codependency packaged as destiny. Manipulation softened by dramatic prose. Instead of growth, we get stagnation. Instead of healing, we get coping mechanisms romanticized as passion. What makes it worse is that the narrative seems to want applause for how dark and brutal it is. But darkness without depth is just noise. Pain without development is just repetition. By the time the supposed emotional climax arrives, I felt nothing. I was not heartbroken. I was exhausted. The side characters barely exist beyond their function. The larger stakes feel distant. Major events happen with surprisingly little emotional weight. For a story that insists on being intense, it feels strangely flat. The most frustrating part is that the premise had potential. There were glimpses of something that could have been powerful. But instead of delivering complexity, it delivers monotony. Instead of catharsis, it delivers emotional fatigue. This was not devastating in a meaningful way. It was draining. And that is a very different thing."
