Chiara, a professional artist from Montreal, has fallen into a state of self-doubt and apathy. Her 40th birthday is around the corner, and she now questions the choice she made much earlier in life to prioritize her career over family life. With a push from a friend, she finds herself standing on a beach in the remote village of Came by Chance, Newfoundland. Ever practical, her goal is to emotionally regroup so she can forge onward professionally. There, she encounters Mike, a former sea Captain from the city of St. John’s, who has been living alone and isolated after a devastating personal tragedy four years prior. Used to going through life alone, expectations are low when they meet in this quiet village, despite their hidden but mutual attraction. Chiara intends on spending her days reflecting by the ocean and her nights painting. Mike intends on spending his days just as reclusively as always. However, the fact that the house Chiara rented makes her Mike’s new temporary neighbour makes it impossible for them to go their own individual ways. Through proximity, they can’t help but get to know one another, but Chiara can feel there is something lurking under the surface. The painful events from Mike’s past must be resolved before he can ever fully open to Chiara. When an unexpected phone call changes everything for Chiara in an instant, it is uncertain as to whether Mike has waited too long.
