The author is a retired professor of nursing who focused her professional career on the care of women and infants. During her forty-one years with the University of Tennessee, she was the recipient of numerous teaching awards including the prestigious Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award given annually to only four or five individuals across the entire university faculty. She served as an Associate Dean and was head of the undergraduate nursing program at UT Knoxville for fifteen years. Upon her retirement, her fellow faculty started an endowed scholarship in her honor. in addition to this novel, she is the author of six children's books and the historical novel "Hidden Child.'
