Linore Rose Burkard wrote a trilogy of regency romances for the Christian market before there were any regencies for the Christian market. Published with Harvest House Publishers, her books opened the genre for the CBA. She also writes YA/ Suspense as L.R. Burkard. Raised in NYC, Linore graduated from City University Of NY magna cum laude with a degree in English Literature. Married with five children, Linore is a homeschooling mother and enjoys swimming, hiking, gardening, and painting. Linore teaches workshops for writers and is developing a novel-writing coaching program for new writers.

Linore says: What made me switch genres from sweet regency romance to YA/Suspense? Here's my answer as it appeared in the March Southern Writers' Mag.:

When my sweet historical romance series was published, I never dreamed my next would be YA/Dystopian. What a switch in genres! So, how did I go from one end of the writing spectrum to another? Blame it on an idea that refused to die. I read a headline about how close the earth came to suffering a catastrophic electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, in 2012. We missed the worst effects of a solar flare by a hair (in space terms); but the "what if" factor had been set in motion. What if that flare hadn't missed us? What if I was a teen raised on electronics--or an adult medically dependent on them--and it all went dead in a matter of seconds? What if the next flare doesn't miss? PULSE, the first book in my PULSE EFFEX Series, was born.

(Here's more about the writing from my July newsletter) "When I wrote PULSE, I didn't expect to write a sequel, much less a third volume. I'm grateful for the many readers who wanted more and thus spurred me on. When I kept writing and stayed in the world of the story, the two sequels developed.

The same thing happened after I wrote my first novel Before the Season Ends. In this case it was regency England I was immersed in, and again, I had no idea of writing a trilogy but that's what happened. When Harvest House Publishers asked if I could write a sequel, I did. When they offered a contract for a third book, suddenly I had ideas for it.

Takeaway: Our brains are capable of producing way more than we expect or give ourselves credit for...
