"This novel is truly a piece of art, and deserves all the credit that it has received. I do however, think this is a book for a select few who can appreciate the historical and philosophical scope of the plot. Although the book forces me to think of the “big questions” of human destiny, I found it intolerably ponderous. I credit any reader who can finish it and say they “enjoyed” it. As a pleasurable experience I give this book a big ZERO, but I qualify that by saying “blame me and my limitations, not the book. ”"

I did not love it, even though I was told I had to

"This book is a challenge and any one who has read it will agree. It is not a lazy Sunday, easy read. It is a book that will command your attention and if that attentions falters for every a paragraph you will be lost. Pynchon begins thoughts half way through, expecting you to know what he is referring to, I often found myself reading blindly and then once I figured out who he was talking about, going back and rereading the pages I was lost in. He will mention characters you will never hear about again, and mention characters in the same breath that will go on to play pivotal roles later on. You just never know, so your find your head being filled with characters. Some parts of the books were difficult to read as it could be quite disturbing. Overall I am glad I read it, but I can not think of many people I know who would enjoy reading this. I was happy when it was over"

Thomas Pynchon is the author of V., The Crying of Lot 49, Gravity's Rainbow, Slow Learner, a collection of short stories, Vineland , Mason and Dixon and, most recently, Against the Day. He received the National Book Award for Gravity's Rainbow in 1974.

Frank Miller is the author and illustrator of Sin City and the 1986 Batman comic The Dark Knight Returns, which is regarded as a milestone in the superhero genre.
