I've been a fan of Allison Saft for a few years now, and when I heard she was coming out with a book about chess and fairies, I knew I needed to read it. The fairies in Immortal Game are more like your traditional folklore fairie than the fae that have taken over the book world this past decade. I personally love folklore fairies and think they need to be in books more often, so I loved seeing Allison Saft's take on them. Another thing I loved about this book was the characters. The character lineup was diverse, and I honestly loved all the characters. Daniil was by far my favourite, despite him being a side character; I found he quickly won my heart. Overall, this was a really fun book, and if you like things such as chess, The Queen's Gambit, Irish Folklore, and sapphic rivals-to-lovers, then this book is probably for you."
