Important Voice Speaking Truth to Power

"Indian In The Cabinet is still a relevant and important read 3 years after 1st publication. Especially timely during this period of prorogation of Parliament and Liberals choosing a new leader, while Ontarians head to the polls for a Provincial election and in light of the global political realm of bullying leaders, a reminder of the importance of even a single voice speaking truth to power is needed to be amplified in these times."

Indian in the Cabinet

"Thoughtful and provoking account to challenge starus quo and sticking to your values."

Indian in the Cabinet was a perfect title. I’d like to think it could be “ powerhouse stands up to PMO”

"This was an awesome read with flow and clarity. I don’t know why it has taken me this long to get this read. The book was clear concise and you felt like you were sitting in your kitchen with Jody having tea and listening to what took place during her term as MP and Minister. She says she isn’t a writer but she most certainly is!!!"

Indian In The Cabinet

"A fantastic inside explanation of a event in Canadian parliamentary history."

Excellent read so far!

"So far, it’s really good! Interesting to read about her childhood and her work in the inner circles of government."

Straight shooter

"I loved the way Jody told her story. I was shocked as this story unfolded in the news and was glad to read the details about what happened. Jody has a way of instantly getting to the truth of the matter. I recommend this to anyone who is thinking of entering politics."

An Indigenous Inspiration

"This book is a great read. Well written and a gradual pace with truth. I enjoyed each page that was turned and it made me want to achieve something more in my career. Gave me insight and things I could relate to as an indigenous woman myself. I recommend this book to women, fellow Canadians and anyone in general who wants a good read."

Eye-opening , easy to read

"I read this quickly and then re-read it thoughtfully. As a life-long Liberal I vote for this party as it is more focused on equality for women and immigrants than the other options. I find that Jodie is a bit harder on Justin Trudeau than she needs to be —- he is Leader, yes, but his job is also to keep the party holding the reins of power. Just like our neighbour to the South, though, the money and energy used solely for re-election is overtaking the actual purpose of government - to govern. Wouldn’t it be lovely if a governing power had years to actually do things-ohm wait-with the coalition, they DO. Canadians are not THAT stupid, or are they? If this government just stopped kissing butts and started doing everything they promised, making real, good changes while they have the coalition majority, wouldn’t people re-elect them? Maybe not. Maybe the lines are too strong but it might be nice to have good things happen for our citizens. I regret that Jody got the shuffle by the old boys in Ottawa but women, sigh. ,. . still have a long way to go!"

"A thoughtful and respectful memoir. . . . Wilson-Raybould describes how public policy plays out within an established institutional context, and shares her own powerful personal encounters. . . .This book is Wilson-Raybould’s plea that Canadians not take our institutions for granted, nor allow complacency to lead us into a collective malaise as we face the challenges of the future." - Jury Citation, Writers' Trust Balsillie Prize for Public Policy
“It’s a page-turner — well written and well paced.”  - Calgary Herald
"[Wilson-Raybould] holds a mirror up for us and what we see is a nation shocked out of our comfortable pews. . . . It is time to address wounds that cannot be negotiated scar by scar through civil contracts and redefine ourselves in the deep language of holy laws that transcend politics and religion. It is time to do what is right." - The British Columbia Review
"An excellent read." - The Literary Review of Canada
