In this world of illness and isolation, distancing and death, making sense of suffering has never been of more critical importance. Jesus in Isolation invites us to Bethany to witness the illness of Jesus's best friend, the spiritual isolation of both Jesus and Lazarus's sisters (Martha and Mary), and Lazarus's cruel and untimely death from an unseen illness, as well as Jesus's unexplained absence as he distanced from his friends and missed the funeral. Yet upon his late arrival, Jesus announced the glory of God had been revealed in the midst of the isolation, the distancing, and even death. He does this by proclaiming himself as "Resurrection and Life" and by absorbing into himself all the suffering and grief of his friends. Join Jesus, Lazarus, and his sisters on a journey through the great issues of our time as they encounter devastating illness, unanswered prayer, the abandonment of God, senseless suffering, cruel death, spiritual isolation, and deep disappointment. But notice when Jesus does arrive on the scene as "Resurrection and Life," the world as God intended is made available to each of them--and also to us.

"I read this book while quarantined for known exposure to Covid. The book was an enthralling journey through biblical stories drawing apt analogies that informed my mind, brightened my spirits, and warmed my heart. I will be giving this book to many who need to hear God's voice in these bizarro times." --Mark Lanier, author and founder of Lanier Law Firm, the Lanier Theological Library, and biblical-literacy.org
"A microscopic virus has radically reoriented our lives--it changed almost everything. Some of us have lived with it, others have died from it. Now as vaccines emerge, it is important that people of faith ask the hard questions: 'What does it mean?' and 'What does God want us to learn?' Scott Sager takes us on a journey with Jesus, Mary, Martha, and Lazarus that gives us answers to the most pressing questions of our day. I highly recommend it to you!" --Kyle Idleman, Senior Pastor of Southeast Christian Church, Louisville, and best-selling author of Not a Fan
"In Jesus in Isolation Scott Sager offers important insights into the death and resurrection of Lazarus. He gleans lessons that will deepen your understanding of the events surrounding this familiar but powerful story and, more importantly, challenge you to rethink the role that your life plays with the people around you." --Steve Gladen, Pastor of Connections, Saddleback Church, and author of Leading Small Groups with Purpose
