"No one in modern times has shown us more vividly than Edith Hamilton 'the glory that was Greece and the grandeur that was Rome.' Filtering the golden essence from the mass of classical literature, she proved how applicable to our daily lives are the humor and wisdom of more than 2,000 years ago."—New York Times

Eventually very interesting

"I found the text to be overwhelming at first given the vast number of characters you are introduced to the start. However, as the stories begin to overlap I was able to follow along and really appreciate how they have trickled down into culture."

My 17 year old is reading!

"Cool mythological book for my 17 year old daughter"

Jenni0214 (5/5)

Lots of information in a small package

"Another great book for reference and inspiration with the Greek mythology; there’s also a bit of the Norse mythology towards the end of the book. It’s an easy enough read with lots of information"

Greyson (5/5)

Another good book on Mythological stories

"The book was pretty objectively written with a slight tint - here and there - of personal opinion and attitude towards certain beliefs. As someone who loves to read mythology, this book can be considered one of the best reference material for those interested in knowing more about mythology. The author discusses the Greek, Roman, and Norse myths in detail in it. This book is divided into seven parts: 1) The Gods, 2) The creation and the earliest heroes, 3) Stories of love and adventure, 4) The great heroes of the Trojan war, 5) The great families of mythology, 6) The less important myths, and 7)The mythology of the Norseman I would not recommend it to someone who is totally unfamiliar with the topic but If you are someone who loves Greek and Roman mythology, this is one of the best books you can buy today."

Shirin S. (5/5)

Edith Hamilton (1868-1963) was born of American parents in Dresden, Germany, and grew up in Indiana. Through the first quarter of the twentieth century she was the headmistress of the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore. Upon retiring, she began to write about the civilizations of the ancient world and soon gained world renown as a classicist. Her celebrated and bestselling books include Mythology, The Greek Way, The Roman Way, and The Echo of Greece. She regarded as the high point of her life a 1957 ceremony in which King Paul of Greece named her an honorary citizen of Athens.
