An important work of historical fiction for children and adults alike

"My students enjoyed reading this as a novel study. Aligns well with grade 6 social studies curriculum."

Emotional and Powerful

"Number the Stars is a powerful and emotional story set during World War II. This novel follows a young girl named Annemarie who helps protect her Jewish friend from the Nazis. The book is both suspenseful and heartwarming, showing Annemarie’s maturity and bravery during a dangerous time. Lois Lowry does a great job making history feel real through a child’s eyes. A touching and important read for all ages. Very excited to have the exceptional read for my classroom."

My 11 year old enjoyed it!

"I purchased this book for my 11 year-old daughter, as it was part of her school curriculum. She really enjoyed this story. It was easy to read & understand & the print was the perfect size. Also, the length of the story wasn't too long, so it wasn't overwhelming for her to have to read the complete novel"

Brenda (5/5)

Short and sweet and age appropriate for age 9-12; yet, shines a light on Hitler’s plans to decimate the Jewish people and the brave Danish people who rescued their Jewish neighbours and countrymen.

"Beautifully written story of a fictional family based on true life stories of the rescue of 7000+ Jews from Denmark to Sweden."

One of My Favourite Novels

"This story was first introduced to me in grade four and was one of the first novels I ever read, I loved it then as much as I do now. It is an impactful coming of age story that can be used as a good introduction to the reality of world history."

Olivia (5/5)

A Good Story

"I read this back in Grade 7 and didn't like it, don't even think I finished it. Decided to pick it up and finish it and can say it was just as I remembered. The story was great and I was really interested in it, wondering how it would all work out. The problem lays with the characters, I found them a little flat, I never really connected with them."

Laura E. (4/5)

Enjoyed

"Number The Stars was one of my favourite books as a child. It was a moving read and told a story of hope in a time of darkness"
