Olive May Davis Osmond: Family Genealogist "Extraordinaire" by R. Clayton Brough, Geographer, M.S., July 2010 Olive May Davis Osmond (1925-2004) was one of the greatest--and perhaps the most famous--"family genealogist's" of the 1900's. In 1954, at the age of 29, Olive accepted the responsibility of researching and documenting her husband's ancestry and that of her own lineage in the United States and the British Isles. As the wife of George Virl Osmond (1917-2007) and the mother of the famous Osmond singers of Utah, she was constantly on-the-go. But wherever she went she was continually answering and sending family history letters, compiling and directing genealogical research work, devising and suggesting new ways to enter family data into computer programs, and constantly encouraged relatives and her worldwide audience to become more involved in genealogy and family history. From the 1950's to the 1990's, Olive and George spent countless hours and thousands of dollars on genealogical research and family history projects and activities. With the support of her husband's relatives--who formed the George Osmond Family Organization, and through three decades of expert guidance and research help from a good friend and professional genealogist--David E. Gardner, Olive was able to do more research and produce more Osmond-related genealogies than anyone else has ever done. Truly, Olive Osmond, was a family genealogist "extraordinaire"; and although she passed away in 2004, her extensive genealogical information and dedication to family history still lives on--through her children's love of family and genealogy with the expertise of R. Clayton Brough and his wife, Ethel Mickelson Brough.
