Charles (Charlie) Bickett, son of Colletta and J.E. "Squire" Bickett was born on February 27, 1952. He was named after Charles Stiles of Raywick, KY and was one of nine children. As a boy he attended Raywick Grade School and later attended St. Charles High School in St. Mary, KY (Class of 1970.) He took courses at Campbellsville College the following spring but never graduated. He began tending bar at the age of 22, a profession that would eventually allow him to become one of the greatest storytellers of his era. He continued bartending and also worked as an administrator and official at Marion Adjustment Center, a minimum-security prison in St. Mary. Charles or (Charlie) has one daughter, Karrie Marie Bickett who was born June 17, 1985. She lives and works in Louisville, KY. His hobbies include painting, folk-art, antique "picking", and hunting for arrowheads and other Native American Artifacts. In 1980 Charlie restored his family's cabin which dates back to 1796 and currently lives there with his pet Chihuahua, Baby. Charlie served the town of Raywick as their mayor two different terms and was personally involved in securing funding and the construction of Raywick's "City Park" Charlie says that he never had any intention to write a book but was encouraged by many loyal fans starting about a year ago when he joined "Facebook". He credits his father J. E. as the greatest storyteller he's ever known but Charlie is fast approaching that status to his over 2000 Facebook followers. Country singer Tom T. Hall was interviewed about his music and asked about the success in his songwriting. He responded "I write what I know." Charlie says he has a similar approach to his stories. He grew up in Raywick, has always lived in Raywick, and will probably die in Raywick. So when asked about this book, that's how he responds "He writes what he knows."
