Prescribing is a relatively recent extension of the nursing role, and there are few resources to support the prescriber through this complex and expanding initiative. The Oxford Handbook of Prescribing for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals, second edition gives concise, practical and expert advice on all aspects of non-medical prescribing.
Giving a complete picture of the role of the prescriber, the handbook provides evidence-based advice for all nurse and non-medical prescribers from novice and student level through to the established prescriber; for all prescribing courses; and following all the competency areas. Helping you achieve the best possible results for your patients, the authors offer a wealth of recommendations, guidance and information from their years of experience as practitioners and teachers.
Whatever situation you are in, the Oxford Handbook of Prescribing for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals will give you the information you need. It contains the practical principles required to enable you to practice safely, effectively and cost-consciously. Information included ranges from basic pharmacology, to the legal aspects and processes of prescribing practice, and prescribing for specific conditions and special groups, such as the older person and the very young. This new edition has been fully revised to include new legislation and changes to prescribing standards. Chapters on complementary and alternative medicine, and evidence-based practice have been expanded, and guidelines regarding prescribing for cosmetic effect have also been included.
So you can find the information you need without delay, the book is clearly laid out with one topic per page, and written in an easily readable note-based style. All this is available at your fingertips, in an accessible and pocket-sized handbook. Written by practising nurses and checked by subject experts and pharmacologists, the Oxford Handbook of Prescribing for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals is a unique and invaluable companion to those undertaking prescribing training and novice prescribers, as well as qualified nurse prescribers, extended nurse prescribers, supplementary nurse prescribers, and other legally designated health professional prescribers including physiotherapists, radiographers, podiatrists, optometrists and pharmacists.

Oxford Handbook of Prescribing for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals
Review from previous edition: "Overall this handbook is essential as a 'nutshell' guide for those nurses and other health professionals undertaking formal learning to become non-medical prescribers...this little handbook [is] a goldmine"
--justfornurses.co.uk"This pocket-sized book is up-to-date and will be useful to anyone concerned with nurse prescribing from managers, who may need information about the legalities of the role and audit of practice, to practicioners both qualified and in training."
--Accident and Emergency Nursing, 2007"This text is a 'must-read' for nurse prescribers and nurse prescriber students and educators throughout the UK, and should be considered for the reading list on all prescribing courses."
--Primary Health Care, May 2007"An excellent resource for nurses, including those considering accessing a prescribing course, student nurse-prescribers and qualified practitioners. Its contents would also be valuable to non-prescribing nurses."
--Journal of Advanced Nursing, Apr 2007"A very useful resource to all nurses and pharmacists undergoing their non-medical prescribing courses...The book would have been beneficial during my nurse prescribing course and would be useful for individual practitioners."
--Cancer Nursing Practice, April 2007"This compact book contains almost everything you need to know about prescribing issues to enhance and maintain safe and effective practice... the only regret is that it wasn't available sooner to those who have studied to become nurse prescribers. This invaluable book is a must for every prescribing course list and something every nurse prescriber should have close to hand. The authors should be congratulated - it is excellent value for money - a little gem."
