"I didn't realize this was based off and written by the same author as the Dramione AO3 fic until about halfway through when the similarities just became too uncanny. Pretty good tho and a beautiful cover!"

"Predictable but fun story and plot. The book itself if gorgeous, will definitely be displayed on my bookshelf."

A Good Start
"3. 5 - 4 stars What a whirlwind! I have so many complicated thoughts when it comes to this novel but I'll attempt to put them into words. First, let me just say, this book starts out with a BANG. It's action from the very first page and I think that is where I originally was hooked. This world and the story was introduced in such a way that I couldn't help but be fully invested and enraptured by this book. Understandably, that initial breakneck momentum didn't continue and the pacing of the story ebbed and flowed throughout the whole novel. Sometimes I felt that the story seemed to be slowing down too much but then another moment would happen where I found myself racing through the pages and fully incapable of putting the book down. Now. The world building, the magic system, and the intricacies of this world. . . need some work. There is a base background that was created in this book but I will admit, sometimes I was left with some confusion. I think I needed some more explanations to fully understand this world and I hope that understanding will come with future novels. I'm bordering the line of spoiler territory here so I have to be careful but: slow burn. This could be the slowest burns of slow burns. That's all I will say. Set your expectations accordingly. And lastly, even though I feel like I will have residual thoughts coming in for days to come, I do think that I may have been more invested and understood more if I had read the original fanfic that this book was rewritten from. I know I shouldn't be saying this but. . . I am interested in going back and reading the fanfic to see if it helps me understand this story more. I think there's a background investment with those characters that is hard to create in this initial novel. Either way, I'm really looking forward to read what's to come in this series."

Book 1 in series
"This book was great. It's the start of a series so the end is a little less satisfying."

Wrecked me
"I went through an emotional rollercoaster with this novel. I couldn't put it down, it just kept getting better. The story deals with some very disturbing subject matter, so please be cautious. Can't believe I have to wait another year for book 2."

A gritty and dark romantasy that is addictive
"Book review: 4. 25/5 ⭐️ Genre: romantasy series Themes: civil war, patriarchy, enemies to lovers 📖 Read if you like: The Gilded Ones, Fourth Wing If you are in need of a new romantic fantasy series that is dark and utterly addicting, this is the one for you! With a war having crushed all human decency, former princess Briony Rosewood’s life as she knows it will never be the same. Torn away from everyone she loves and her only home, she along with any surviving allies are auctioned off to the highest bidders. Facing a future of demeaning servitude, abuse, imprisonment or death, life seems very bleak. Stripped of magic and any forms of freedom, Briony is relegated to a life of fear and ridicule. With the winners a patriarchal society that wishes to subjugate women to serve their needs - all of them, no matter how unwilling they may be, and with little care for their lives, the Eversuns face a dark and uncertain future. After a ludicrous bidding war, Briony ends up in the house of an unexpected former classmate. Toven Hearst is a seemingly cold and ruthless Bomardi with deadly heart magic. As the rules of this new world are made and broken, Briony must determine what role she is to play in aiding the remaining Eversun people. Within the confines of her home imprisonment, she will face another battle entirely. What starts off as a school girl crush may turn into an ill fated love story as secrets are revealed and loyalties are tested. This story is not for the feint of heart and many aspects on the treatment of women will be repulsive and abhorrent for many readers. Be warned there is a lot of physical and sexual abuse, along with bullying and domineering that may be triggering for some. Thus fairs the spoils of war in any traditional sense, but it can be unappetizing and maddening to read about. The leering and controlling young men in this novel did turn my stomach, but it created a deadly post war environment for the heroine to make choices and play her hand. I thought it was well done with time jumps between the present and pre-war developing character and relationship dynamics. The enemies attract with one obtuse party was a slow-burn romance that built with anticipation. And did I mention there is a dragon! Overall, there were a lot of elements that created an engaging and engrossing storyline. I could not stop listening to this audiobook! The narration was excellent and so engaging. I cannot wait for this series to continue and of course purchased the special edition sprayed edged hardcover, because it is just so pretty. I also started reading it in tandem upon arrival, but the audiobook really was a star thanks to Ella Lynch. The accents and pacing really made the story come alive with gripping anticipation. The narration breathed life into these characters that made me listen to it twice already! Thank you to Hachette Audio and Netgalley for an advanced copy for review. And I have to say the sprayed edge special edition is a beauty!"
