For the reasons here briefly stated, Omar's personality must be regarded as an insoluble problem, although its general features, I think, may be guessed at. The trustworthy reports of his life are too scanty to provide even the outlines of an accurate historical sketch, while hardly a ray of light can reach us through the mass of foreign material in which his poetry lies inextricably embedded.
