Reviews

Love the Title

"Beware - I'm giving a high review based on the title and story line alone. I've bought this as a gift and have no idea how the recipient (an almost 100 year-old man) will like it ;)"

Edith C. (5/5)

Light, funny

"Gave to my husband for Xmas, he really enjoyed it."

Sara (5/5)

Medicine for Seniirs

"I bought this book for a ninety four year old who was in physio for his health. He absolutely loved the book and he said it made him laugh on every page🤪"

Carole S. (5/5)

Fun!

"A fun read, dark, light, fun perspective on history"

Colleen (4/5)

Title prepares the reader for the unexpected!

"Such a fun, entertaining read. Lots of unexpected twists."

Ambro (5/5)

The title is very fitting- at 100 he steps back into life!

"It is a whimsical tale of a man who isn’t done living. His adventures take the reader through much adventure and some pretty big historical moments. A very well written fun read!"

Oregano (5/5)

Great fun!

"Loved it! A roller coaster ride of fun and adventure - with a little history thrown in for good measure."

Fiona (4/5)

A Great Read

"Loved this book I simply couldn’t put it down. I loved the nonchalance of the man as he navigated important events of the 20th century and the contrast to his present day adventures. Every event was coincidental yet comically believable so it didn’t pull you out of the story too much."

Vanessa (5/5)

Fun and delightful read

"Witty and fun! An easy, light read when you want to let your mind wander."

Jada (5/5)

Scandi absurd

"A lovely absurd trip through the byways of the 20 C by an accidental tourist"

TSefton (3/5)

“Imaginative, laugh-out-loud . . . a brilliant satire on the foibles of mankind.” - The Telegraph
“[A] witty caper. ★★★1/2” - People
“[A] silly and wonderful novel. [The scenes] will just keep readers amused almost non-stop, and that’s a feat few writers achieve. A great cure for the blues, especially for anyone who might feel bad about growing older.” - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
“The anti Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. . . . Jonasson’s lighthearted novel shows the softer side of Sweden. . . . hilarious.” - Marie Claire
“Scandi-crime’s signature darkness is here dispelled by Allan Karlsson, the eponymous centenarian, who with unlikely sprightliness hops out of the window of his old people’s home one afternoon. . . . Fast-moving and relentlessly sunny. . . . Like Allan, the plot is pleasingly nimble and the book’s endearing charm offers a happy alternative to the more familiar Nordic noir.”
- The Guardian
“Scandi-crime’s signature darkness is here dispelled by Allan Karlsson, the eponymous centenarian, who with unlikely sprightliness hops out of the window of his old people’s home one afternoon. . . . Fast-moving and relentlessly sunny.” - The Guardian
[A] laugh-out-loud debut. . . . Historical figures like Mao’s third wife, Vice President Truman, and Stalin appear, to great comic effect. Other characters—most notably Albert Einstein’s hapless half-brother—are cleverly spun into the raucous yarn, and all help drive this gentle lampoon of procedurals and thrillers.” - Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Eccentric, unusual and far-fetched in the best possible way.” - The Bookseller
“This quirky novel is a sly, satirical look back at international relations in the 20th century through the eyes of an old man who has seen it all.” - Library Journal
