“Somehow, Finlay manages to improve with each amazing book, and he has crafted another terrific suspense novel that demands to be read in one sitting. Jules and Quinn fly off the page, and readers will be emotionally engrossed in their journey to see where they are in their lives each May 1.”Library Journal (Starred Review)

“I couldn’t put down this engrossing novel about the intertwined lives of Jules and Quinn . . . As Finlay delicately untangles a web of deception and violence, a gripping novel emerges about fate, family, and the ties that bind us all.”—Annabel Gutterman, Amazon Editor (Best Mystery/Thrillers of the Month)

“I am excited to report that Alex Finlay may have produced his best work yet with his spine-chilling and absorbing new thriller . . . The finale of The Anniversary is worth the price of admission and aptly concludes all the suspense that has been building up to that point. Finlay has written a work of extremely unsettling terror that is unleashed on two terrific protagonists. We know they will be forever damaged by it, but we still can’t stop pulling for them right up to the end.”—BookReporter

“Two people are forever connected by the events of a single day. Piece by piece, Alex Finlay expertly reveals the secrets and lies that bind them together. Razor sharp, smart, and emotionally charged—it’s everything I want in a thriller!”—Ashley Elston, #1 New York Times bestselling author of First Lie Wins

“An unputdownable thriller that never telegraphs what’s coming next, or lets the reader off the hook. The twists and turns in the separate, tragically connected, journeys of Jules and Quinn is simply one of the best crafted novels of this, or any year. Fast

"The Anniversary is Alex Finlay's best book to date. The pace is fast and addictive. There is a tidal wave of lies and secrets with twists and turns that will have you unable to put the book down. The Anniversary spans 10 years featuring Quinn Riley the boy from the wrong side of the tracks and Jules Delaney who seems to have it all: beauty, charm and intellegence . Until one fateful night May 1st when her world is forever changed. Both characters have their faults but are so likeable . I cried with them, laughed with them and most of all admired their tenacity and strength. They lead separate lives yet parallel to some extent and their paths cross over several times. The tension mounts as I was totally drawn into both their lives. When I wasn't reading I was thinking about Quinn and Jules and would rush back to pick the book up. I highly recommend The Anniversary: clear your schedule and be ready to binge read in one session."

4. 5⭐️ The Anniversary has such

"4. 5⭐️ The Anniversary has such a creative concept: every part takes place on May 1, year after year, on the anniversary (get it?) of the day the two protagonists lives as they knew them were destroyed. 1992 - Quinn and Jules are 17 year olds in study hall - Quinn, a grunge loner and Jules, the most beautiful girl in the school - and have become unlikely friends. In their small Nebraskan town, there has been a serial killer on the loose, dubbed the May Day killer, striking by killing and/ or raping young women every May 1st. Despite the warnings to stay home, Jules is going to a concert with her jock boyfriend, Brad and their friends. Quinn gets surprise birthday tickets for the same concert. But their lives go down different paths from here: Jules being one of the “Lucky Ones” to survive the May Day killer and Quinn being sent to juvie after a fist fight goes very wrong. The rest of the novel follows by providing updates only on the May 1st anniversary, and we see the aftermath of that fateful day in 1992. The chapters are fast paced and because the plot spans across more than a decade, the protagonists have an incredible amount of character growth within the book’s 336 pages. These characters really hold a soft spot in my heart and I am weirdly proud of them (despite them being completely fictional) for how they grew from their terrible experiences and changed the lives of so many others. Definitely recommend! Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for an e-ARC of The Anniversary by Alex Finlay in exchange for an honest review. CW: while there are no graphic depictions of rape (thank god), it’s a very central theme to the book so proceed with caution if that is a sensitive topic for you."

Spectacular!!!

"Oh my gosh, this was so good! There are a lot of books that are hard to put down once I start them, but this one literally had me in its grasp and would not let me go. I was listening to it every moment I could. The slow groundwork that was laid out tantalized me with every chapter. As the years passed, I kept wondering about each of these characters; where they were going, if they would ever reconnect, whether it would even matter, and if it did, how it would matter. Then as things started unfolding, I needed to know what was happening and how it was all going to end. I could not help but to keep pushing further and further into the story. And that ending? Complete satisfaction to a story that gave me so much enjoyment. This is a review for the audiobook edition, and it was absolutely spectacular! These narrators gave the characters so much life. I felt as though I were right there in the middle of all the drama, danger, horror, and struggle. I honestly could not have asked for a more perfect performance."

Amazing Thriller

"Thank you to Macmillan Audio, Minotaur Books, St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for the copies of The Anniversary. Here are my thoughts! Every year on May 1st, the May Day Killer takes another predator. The Anniversary focuses on two people impacted by May 1st. The first is popular high school senior, Jules, a survivor of the May Day Killer. The second is Quinn, the quiet boy that Jules gets to know in study hall, who assaults someone on May 1st and spend some time in prison. This novel visits their lives on May 1st over the subsequent years to see how their lives have changed. I thought that the way this story was told, back and forth and over time was super smart. I was equally invested in Quinn and Jules stories, and the flow of their lives made a lot of sense based on what they experienced. This novel is a thriller, and it was so detailed, and everything gets woven together magically. There were so many levels to it. It feels like a character exploration in conjunction with the terrifying mystery that follows Jules and Quinn over the years. I listened to parts of this book and Ari Fliakos and Brittany Pressley really helped to make these characters come to life. They both had engaging voices that really fit what I imagined for the characters. This one is a hard one to read, as it doesn’t stray away from some of the terrible things that Jules experienced, but it made me feel even more compassion for her and what she decides to do with her life. For me to give a thriller 5 stars it really needs to be unique and bring a new element to the genre, and The Anniversary does just that!"

I dont typically like

"I don't typically like serial killer stories - much less serial killers who are also serial rapists - and I did not know this was to be the topic of this book when I grabbed a 'Read Now' ARC from NetGalley. I had heard of the book through an indie book box subscription I'd used a few times, and knew Alex Finlay both by reputation, and from reading The Night Shift, which I'd found entertaining and original. I was pleasantly surprised to see that, while the hunt for a serial killer/rapist moves the story forward, it isn't it's main focus. This is a surprisingly character-driven book. Through short chapters, it spans about a decade of Jules and Quinn's lives as they work through their respective traumas and investigations. However, for such a character-driven novel, we never really crack the surface of who these characters are, and I believe the breakneck pace and short chapters are partially to blame. While these would fit most thrillers well, it does a disservice to a character-centric story."

So good!! Loved it!

"4. 5 Stars Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen and enjoy this audiobook. I really enjoyed this one! I have read one other book by Alex Finlay and it wasn’t my fave but this one was great. We had dual POVs and multiple narrators, which for me is a must with make and female characters at the least. We had Jules and Quinn who both have their different stories and tragedies in their lives but their lives keep intersecting and as the story unwinds we learn other reasons why their stories overlap. I just found the whole story really interesting how there is a serial killer on one side kidnapping girls on May 1st from all over and either killing them (I don’t think we find bodies they are just missing) or sexually assaulting them and letting them go based on a coin flip. And in Quinn’s case he is trying to solve his mother’s murder. And with Jules she’s trying to survive her SA and also find her missing sister. This story actually takes place over multiple years which is also interesting g and even though we lose that time it takes us right back into their stories without missing a beat. There’s also a but of a super slow burn friends to lovers. I didn’t guess who either of the killers were. I also read this so quick because I was so invested in the characters and in their stories that I needed to know! I was totally recommend this one to everyone."

So good!

"I LOVED this book! Finished it in about 24 hours. The Anniversary follows Quinn and Jules. It starts off with their teen selves. Quinn is a boy from a not so well off family, quiet and shy without many friends. Jules is a popular girl with a jock boyfriend from a well off family. Both of their lives have change and become shaped around events tied to May 1st. The story unfolds across multiple years, returning to that same date again and again as Jules and Quinn grow up and new pieces of the mystery are revealed. This was definitely a slow burn, but it was one that kept me invested and turning pages the entire time. I felt so connected to the characters, and was rooting so hard for them. I was so caught up in the story that my mind actually didn’t have time to wander and try to guess the ending and who that bad guy was! One of the things that really stood out to me was the structure of the story. The entire book is told only on May 1st across multiple years, and I loved how those timeline jumps worked. It kept the pacing interesting and made every chapter feel intentional, revealing new pieces of the story each year. The dual POV between Quinn and Jules worked really well, and watching the different plot threads slowly come together made the ending even more satisfying. The payoff at the end completely delivered for me — definitely more than a couple “woah” moments. This is definitely a must read! Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press/ Minotaur Books, and Alex Finlay for the ARC and the opportunity to provide my honest review."
