Must read

Lababe (5/5)

Must read

"Much is said about Malcolm X that is sensationalistic and false. Here is an autobiography that is centred on his perspective, his voice, and his real story."

Ruba (5/5)

Not recommended at all

"I'm not entirely sure why this book gets so much praise. It was not inspiring or eye opening at all. I thought it would give me a new perspective but it just made me think that Malcom is just as racist or more as the people who were racist towards him. He should not in any way be idolized. His only saving grace that I can appreciate is that he tried to improve his lot in life and for his community. However, I'm not sure about academic integrity at this time but clearly some of his ""history"" knowledge was propaganda and lies. I did not even feel comfortable donating this book as it could easily lead people astray. It went into the recycling as that was the best use I saw for it. I get the virtue signalling and white guilt of it but I didn't buy into one bit and neither should you"

“Extraordinary . . . a brilliant, painful, important book.”The New York Times

“This book will have a permanent place in the literature of the Afro-American struggle.”—I. F. Stone

“Malcolm X’s autobiography seemed to offer something different. His repeated acts of self-creation spoke to me; the blunt poetry of his words, his unadorned insistence on respect, promised a new and uncompromising order, martial in its discipline, forged through sheer force of will.”—Barack Obama, Dreams from My Father

“A great book . . . Its dead level honesty, its passion, its exalted purpose, will make it stand as a monument to the most painful truth.”The Nation

“The most important book I’ll ever read, it changed the way I thought, it changed the way I acted. It has given me courage I didn’t know I had inside me. I’m one of hundreds of thousands whose lives were changed for the better.”—Spike Lee
