The couple next door reinforces the idea do we really know our neighbors? They appear nice but something isn't right. This doesn't necessarily make them suspects or does it?

"Reader is snagged at the beginning with the loss of a child. Someone has taken Cora. Parents are next door visiting friends when child is taken. Parents appear a bit careless in their parenting. The wife seems a bit off but is she necessarily a suspect. The wife's parenting get involved. This raises tension a bit and develops the plot naturally. Suspects are questioned but reader isn't sure they are guilty. I couldn't put it down until I knew who did this. Good read!"

Great title representing this whole storyline!

"On the front of the book a tagline says: ""His mistress is dead. His wife is his only hope. "" Did that not catch your attention? ""His"" wife happens to be the best criminal defense attorney in Washington DC - Sarah Morgan - and he needs her to help save his life! ""He"" is not-so-successful, author-husband Adam who's pretty much got caught with his pants down. He's been in an affair with non-other than a person named Kelly Summers. Of course he's been condoning this behavior because his wife has been too busy for him, being the famous attorney that she is. Now we have a situation! Kelly is found dead in the couple's lake-side cottage, with Adam being the last person to see her alive. So, Adam is arrested on suspicion of murder. Adam 'needs' her like he's never needed her before. She is now aware of his affair - this faces her with the most challenging decision of her life. Does she really know her husband enough to convince a jury he didn't commit murder? Or. . . . . maybe she'll realize she doesn't know him at all!. Let the deliberations begin - not just in the court-house, but in all aspects of her life!"

honestly have nothing but

"honestly have nothing but great things to say about this book, i picked it up and couldn’t put it down. the story line just sucks you in and you become invested in the story i got stuck trying to put together the puzzle. my all time favourite books have twists endings and this one is definitely in my top 3, the ending just isn’t what you’d expect you think you’ve figured it out and you know how the story is gonna end and then it suddenly isn’t what you expected at all. i cant recommend Shari Lapena enough i so far have loved all her books just an amazing author."

An Okay Read

"Plot was predictable and writing was decent but some parts were repetitive. Despite that, I finished the novel within 2 days just reading during my commute. It's a good palette cleanser, it got me out my reading slump which is why I rated it 3 stars and not 2. Although the plot was nothing out of the ordinary, I still felt a little rush of thrill throughout the novel."
