Reviews

Good to explore one’s mortality

"Good read to explore anxiety/resistance to one’s own mortality but sometimes the author tries to include a lot of context for specific theories that one can get a bit lost in"

Robin (4/5)

Accurate title

"Great Book, Gives new Perspective on life knowing the inevitability of death"

Rhys D. (5/5)

A book of its time

"Some interesting sections about being a creator to challenge our mortality but dated views and perhaps offensive views about sexuality. Lot of references to Freudian theories."

David (2/5)

book review

"heard about this book from a professor and i was super excited to find it in indigos website. i was anticipating getting it for some time now and i love it. was super happy with the process of ordering it to the store."

Anon (5/5)

No longer shall you deny death

"You will see the world in a new light as this book explores different perceptions of death by various philosophers, psychologists, and anthropologists. From Kierkegaard to Otto Rank we get to see amazing insights of great minds and how they explain why we deny our deaths by pursuing momentary goals or developing different character traits."

Nightlamp (5/5)

An incredibly interesting book on death

"A book that is extremely thought-provoking. I'd recommend it to anyone that ever pondered about death and its role in our lives. To me, the book literally changed my out view on life. The only thing I’d caution is for people to take Becker’s writings with a grain of salt as they are more based on philosophy and psychoanalysis rather than any empirical science."

The Chicago Sun-Times It is hard to overestimate the importance of this book; Becker succeeds brilliantly in what he sets out to do, and the effort was necessary.
After receiving a PhD in cultural anthropology from Syracuse University, Dr. Ernest Becker (1924–1974) taught at the University of California at Berkeley, San Francisco State College, and Simon Fraser University, Canada. He is survived by his wife, Marie, and a foundation that bears his name—The Ernest Becker Foundation.
