Life in the story really comes alive with the many characters trials and tribulations from morning till night.

"The book really portrays the struggle and hardships many had to endure. Cleverly written to capture the readers imagination."

The title is nice and cool, im not sure what exactly it has to do with the story, but its a nice title.

"Thought it was a great story. Hqs adventure and real struggles that nake it more real. I would prefer it without the sex though."

If you're undecided - dive in.

"Loving this book so far. I've only read the first couple of hundred pages of 1000 or so. It's been very enjoyable so far. This is my first foray into the worlds of Ken Follett and I understand why he is so popular. His writing is very easy to read but also paints a really great picture of what's happening."

Matt (5/5)

Awesome read

"Amazing book. I couldn’t put it down. Read it in less than a week. I read this first before I started The Pillars of the Earth as it was the prequel to it. I had never read anything from Ken Follet and this series had been on my read list for a very long time. He is a really good author. I highly recommend this series."

Tamara W. (5/5)

It is a good title. .

"I must admit I have not read it yet . . . I am still reading the previous novel in the series. . . but I know it will be great because it is Ken Follett. . ."

Karen M. (5/5)

The benefit of a prequel. . .

"Completely engaging. While I was looking for Pillars of the Earth, it wasn't on the shelf. But the Evening and the Morning was, and as a prequel, I'm primed and ready now for Pillars of the Earth."

Dartmouth D. (5/5)

FANTASTIC!!!

"Follett never disappoints! This was a gripping tale from beginning to end!"

Andrea (5/5)

Easy yet gripping read

"One of Ken Follett's best. So easy to read and so engaging. Connect with characters and start to hate others with a passion. A fantastic look into the daily lives of life back then as well, very fascinating to learn how people lived/ate/worked while tying into a very exciting plot. Not a fast reader and assumed this long book would take a month to read casually, ended up reading in a week putting off other projects -- fiancé did the same"

Praise for Ken Follett and the Kingsbridge series:

“The Kingsbridge books . . . are swift, accessible and written in a clear, uncluttered prose that has a distinctly contemporary feel. . . . Follett presents his worlds in granular detail, but the narratives never stand still. Something dramatic, appalling or enraging happens in virtually every chapter. . . . The result is a massive entertainment that illuminates an obscure corner of British history with intelligence and great narrative energy.”
The Washington Post

“Follett takes you to a time long past with brio and razor-sharp storytelling. An epic tale in which you will lose yourself.”
The Denver Post

“[Follett is a] master of the sweeping, readable epic.”
The Philadelphia Inquirer

“Follett is a master.”
The Washington Post
