Disappointed

"I own and love all of the books in this series. However, this is the first book that really disappointed me. I can usually read these books within a week or two but this one took me well over a month to finish. Similar to the other low rating review, I felt that the story dragged on and that I became irritated with the characters. Annie’s hatred for Mac was very intense and constant. Although it was valid, it consumed the book and portrayed her as an extremely negative person which became annoying to listen to."

High Expectations, Underwhelmed

"So I really thought that this would be the one I loved best in the series, enemies to lovers is typically my jam but it didn't hit the way I expected or wanted it to. I want to start by saying I began this book the week before Christmas, and given the size, I thought I'd have finished it in a day or two, but with holiday chaos I took about a two week pause and just picked it back up and finished the other 2/3 of it today. Does that matter? Maybe, maybe the delay made it harder to get back into it later, but maybe if I'd been more into it from the start holidays or not, I would have made time to read it…. I appreciated that we got the time jumps, not something I often say, because we got to see how real the earlier experience with Annie and Mac was, and to understand them better as characters. The story wouldn't have been the same without that. But the present day only took place over a couple of days and it still felt like it dragged for me at times. I feel like I understood the main characters and didn't necessarily blame them for their feelings, but towards the end Annie did start to irk me. Also I typically love an ensemble but the side quest they went on made me genuinely mad, what I think was meant to be funny, I was just like """"absolutely not"""". I did like seeing the other couples we'd met previously, but to be honest, even the small town vibes didn't satisfy me the way they had before, and neither did the spice. I was really looking forward to this book and the best I can say is it's fine. I will probably give the new book coming out later in the year a try but if it doesn't delight me like The Christmas Tree Farm did, I fear it might be time for me to leave Dream Harbor…"
