Melanie Porter is a graduate of Central Saint Martin’s College in London. She spent 10 years working as a knitwear designer for a number of international fashion brands before turning her expertise to furniture in 2008. She creates one-off contemporary designs from antiques sourced at auctions and markets—each project is painstakingly stripped back to the frame, before being restored and/or reupholstered using traditional techniques, and then covered with a series of hand-knitted panels. Melanie’s ability to create exquisite, textured fabrics has drawn attention from clients and press all over the world. Her work is now sold at prestigious department store Lane Crawford in Hong Kong and lifestyle boutique Wolf & Badger in London. She is the author of Hand-Knit Your Home, also published by CICO Books, and her first child was born in July 2013. The author is based in central London.
