Thirteen-year-old Naledi, a curious and perceptive girl from a small Zimbabwean village, has always felt an inexplicable pull toward the river that runs near her home. When a mysterious whirlpool draws her beneath the surface, she discovers Aqualyth, a hidden underwater city inhabited by mermaids inspired by the njuzu of local folklore.
