"As always with Ann Cleeves, the history and landscape of the setting are as much a character as the people in this novel. With a new setting and family, Perez is revived as a series and the plotline—always good in Cleeves—is as twisty as any reader will want." —The Globe and Mail

"This is the same Jimmy Perez we've all come to know in Cleeves' Shetland books and on the telly—brilliant, decent, hoping to see the best in people, compassionate...The Killing Stones is one of the best books Cleeves has written in recent memory." —Winnipeg Free Press

"Cleeves crafts a taut police procedural, enhanced by the craggy and mythical atmosphere of Scotland's remote islands and brightened by the domestic tranquility the detective duo has established in a new community." —Booklist, STARRED REVIEW

"The intensely personal nature of the case infuses it with welcome emotional depth, and Cleeves keeps readers guessing until she delivers a gutting climactic reveal that few will see coming. This proves Detective Perez still has the goods." —Publishers Weekly

"A first-rate mystery full of historical detail and descriptions of a beautiful place." —Kirkus Reviews

"Cleeves excels at drawing a picture of the landscapes, communities, and the characters who live in them. Readers will welcome the return of Jimmy and Willow and be thrilled with the new setting." —Library Journal

Jimmy Perez Returns

"I like the Jimmy Perez series but this one didn't catch my attention as did Ann Cleeves previous books. There were not too many clues to go on and I like to try to solve the murders as I read through the books. Jimmy says 'I'll end this now"" and he does in short order and that is it. The Orkney islands have only 22000 inhabitants so it must be a dangerous place to live with so many murders occurring there. I did like the history she provided and the archeology sites she described. It is a good read but not a 5 star read."
