A pulse-pounding new thriller from the bestselling author of Wherever She Goes and Every Step She Takes.
If someone were threatening your home, how far would you go to protect it?
A stranger is trespassing in Celeste Turner's backyard, moving through the shadows around her shed. It could be a harmless backpacker seeking temporary refuge, but experience has taught Celeste to be extra wary. Not wishing to draw unwanted attention, she cannot turn to the police. Celeste is an outsider to this region of rural Florida, and all the locals see is a "city girl" who swooped in to secure her inheritance. But Celeste needs her new life to work, so she must confront her intruder.
To her surprise, she finds out that her unwanted guest is a young backpacker named Daisy. She is polite and friendly, just taking advantage of some shelter as she makes her way through the area. Swiftly, they begin an unlikely and beneficial friendship--Celeste can't help herself, and besides, Daisy will be moving on soon. Why not take advantage of the extra help?
Both women have secrets they want to keep buried, and when a body is discovered near Celeste's house, they must move quickly to prove their innocence and protect the lives they've built for themselves.

I loved this book!
"4. 5/ 5 stars Kelley Armstrong is my favorite author. And she has delivered another riveting story. This book is a thriller set in rural central Florida. It is about two women (Celeste and Daisy) with mysterious pasts and secrets. Celeste has inherited her grandmother's rundown house. She finds someone living in her shed. This book is a bit dark. But not overly violent or graphic. But it was so good! I could not put this book down. It was fast paced with so much happening. Full of so many surprises. This was a thrilling, shocking and captivating read. And I loved it!"

Satisfying Thriller/Suspenseful Read
"I really enjoyed this latest release from K. L. (Kelley) Armstrong! I wasn’t expecting as many twists as there were, so I was quickly hooked and very pleasantly surprised! The overall pace of the book was well done, so it was an easy and satisfying read. I went in with no expectations, and I’m glad I did. The simple synopsis does not do “The Life She Had” justice, but also doesn’t spoil anything- which I appreciated! Definitely would recommend for a weekend read! Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for an ARC of this novel. Strong 4/5."
