Just because it’s intended for a younger audience doesn’t mean there isn’t something worthwhile in there for us all.
—Sarah Jessica Parker

One reading is hardly enough to savor the rich philosophical nuances of DiCamillo’s story. I think I will go read it again right now.
—The New York Times Book Review

This achingly beautiful story shows a true master of writing at her very best.
—School Library Journal (starred review)

The story soars because of DiCamillo's lyrical use of language and her understanding of universal yearnings. This will be a pleasure to read aloud.
—Booklist (starred review)

Once again, DiCamillo harkens back to an older storytelling style, filled with magic and the transformational power of love. . . . The reader will be transformed, too.
—Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

There will be inevitable comparison of Edward Tulane to The Velveteen Rabbit, and Margery Williams's classic story can still charm after 83 years. But as delightful as it is, it can't match the exquisite language, inventive plot twists, and memorable characters of DiCamillo's tale.
—Publishers Weekly, boxed signature review

The delicate sepia images that head each chapter and the full-color illustrations augment the emotional tenor of the book.
—The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

DiCamillo writes tenderly and lyrically but with restraint, keeping a tight focus on Edward’s experience and gradual awakening.
—The Horn Book

Bagram Ibatoulline's exquisite illustrations cast a warm light across this . . . tale by one of today's most admired writers for children.
—Wall Street Journal

DiCamillo has carved out a distinct place as one of her generation's most beloved writers.
—Chicago Tribune

When Edward's journey ends, the reader will be wishing this story could go on and on.
—Washington Post Book World

In the tradition of poignant, beloved children's classics like Don Freeman's Corduroy and Anna Sewell's Black Beauty comes best-selling, Newbery Medal-winning author Kate DiCamillo's utterly charming creation The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. . . . With traditional illustrations and text that begs to be read aloud, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane will quickly take a place of honor on every child's bookshelf, undoubtedly and deservedly.
—Time Out New York Kids

DiCamillo . . . is a natural children's-book writer.
—Boston Herald

This choice is destined to become a classic.
—Dallas Morning News

DiCamillo’s book is as much a literary miracle as Edward’s transformation.
—Raleigh News and Observer

DiCamillo’s newest offering is full of lovely, stately language, a riveting plot and a message that is heartwarming without being preachy. Fans of Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux will not be disappointed. . . .This tale has 'destined to be classic' written all over it, and it lives up to its great promise.
—Book Page

A rare and beautiful book that remains in the soul.
—San Diego Union-Tribune

Elegantly designed, with delicate, full-color plate paintings by Bagram Ibatoulline, it has the look of a classic.
—Miami Herald

Lovingly told, DiCamillo's affection for her characters shines through and overtakes you and by the book's end, readers will care deeply.
—Honolulu Advertiser

A new classic has been forged.
—Pittsburgh Post Gazette

The powerful storytelling of bestselling author DiCamillo paired with Ibatoulline’s luminous paintings, will leave no reader — child or adult — unmoved.
—Child

Beautifully designed, with plenty of old fashioned illustrations.
—Seattle Times

A riveting tale, by turns sad and joyous.
—Scripps-Howard News Service, Best Children’s Books roundup

The miracle of Edward Tulane’s journey is the miracle of learning to love.
—ForeWord Magazine

Exemplifies the art of bookmaking as well as excellence in storytelling and illustration.
—Reading Today

A remarkable, eloquent and genuinely moving story. . . . Hang onto this title as one to remember for graduation gifts.
—Denver Post

Ibatoulline outdoes himself — Yet even standing alone, the story soars because of DiCamillo’s lyrical use of language and universal yearnings.
—Book Links

The sad yet hopeful story of a selfish china rabbit that learns to love is beautifully written, and the sepia-toned gouache illustrations make this book one to treasure for many years.

A heartwarming story

"When I read this book with my class and teacher, we all loved it. It had a beautiful message to be selfless, and not selfish, and to say “I love you” to people before it’s too late. The plot or storyline was amazingly organized with the placement of events. In the story a china rabbit doll of course named Edward Tulane, was on the Queen Mary ship for a cruise with his original owners, Abilene who a few days earlier had turned eleven, and her parents. In the book Edward goes on a journey with a bunch of different owners every once in a while, but so I don’t spoil it for you all, I'll leave it at that because I want you to enjoy it as much as me and my class did. I recommend this book to nine year olds and up as it has tragic scenes, but overall the book was amazing! In my opinion every library, home, classroom and school, it truly is a wholesome story that shows true power, friendship and love. If I could I would force everyone to read and buy it, but again, that’s illegal and if I did that I would probably go to jail, but if the jail had this book then I wouldn't mind. Everyone deserves to enjoy a good book, even prisoners, back to Edward, he travels around the world, and at first he wants nothing to do with love but towards the end he wants everything with love heck I think he wants all the love for himself. Sometimes he wishes he had wings so he could help the people he loved. I can’t explain how much I loved this book with words, like I previously stated this book is a wholesome book and it’s definitely in my top three books. Anyways amazing storyline and everyone but I mean EVERYONE should buy this book. I give it 5 out of 5 stars because I usually think every book can improve but this book has no criticism and, sure it could improve with a series but I'm truly at a loss for words of criticism. It had great cliffhangers, it had miracles, and I just hope you enjoy it as much as me, and my class. This review is pretty long so I’ll leave it at that."

So much life lessons

"So the book Edward Tulane is about a bunny who starts out vain, selfish, rude and arrogant; along the journey he learns to be selfless, considerate, and polite. I recommend this book to ages 9-12 because there are some parts with violence, drunkenness and death. I learnt from this book to remember the importance of love, to be content with what you have and not to be full of your self"

Good story line and kid friendly

"I was stuck to this book from the beginning to the end . The book was amazing, nice characters, excellent story line and so many things to learn. As a 10 year old kid, I learnt that we can also show love to non living things as in the case of Edward(the China doll with many names) who was loved by a lot of people he passed through. The sad part for me was when they lost the little girl (Sarah Ruth) just because there was no treatment for the illness and they were poor . I like the book and will recommend to people to read so they can appreciate what love and family is"

A delightful story

"The miraculous journey of Edward Tulane My teacher read this book to the class I was in. I think this book is best for kids that are about 9 years old or 10 years old. I love this book because it is interesting. Also, it was fun to make predictions. It is about a china rabbit that lives with a girl named Abilene. Abilene lives in a house on Egypt Street. She takes Edward Tulane (the rabbit )with her on a boat to England . But then two boys named Amos and Martin were fighting on the boat and accidentally pushed Edward Tulane into the ocean and that was when Edward Tulane's miraculous journey started . I think this book's life lesson is to always love people and to not be vain. I hope you buy this book for your family to enjoy!!!!!! Natalie"

Fun to read.

"Book review !!!!!!!!!!!!! The miraculous journey of Edward Tulane is a book about a rabbit made of china that goes on so many adventures. He started off with a girl named Abilene. At the house the father said that they are going on a vacation. And on a cruise Edward got tossed in the ocean. And that is how Edward Tulane’s journey begins. Through his journey he meets a lot of new people like a fisher man a hobo and many more! The moral of the story is love people while you can. I recommend this book to fourth graders and up because their is some disturbing images because a young kid passes away. But overall I think the book is amazing with cliff hangers . It is such a good book, I highly recommend this book to classes to read together."

The love of the journey.

"A beautifully descriptive story of finding the value in simple connections, remembering those that have touched us, how we can be glimmers of hope for each other, and everything that is meant to be evolves when it’s time. A story that is meant to be read aloud and touches the hearts of readers at any age. Adventures change us and love is always the answer, even through pain."

One of the best

"A beautiful heart warming story. Short and sweet. Great for readers old and young!"

Michael C. (5/5)

A miraculous journey and adventure for all.

"While this book and story is categorized as young adult fiction, I think it is timeless book for all ages. It is a story of a china rabbit and through Edward’s miraculous journeys we learn some important life lessons. Life lessons you are never to old to learn and to be reminded of. This is a story of loss, recovery, kindness, compassion, patience and love. It is a story of optimism, persistence, and an open-minded attitude to life and life experiences. But mostly, it is a story of love and the importance of being loved and loving"

Excellent book for kids

"My 9 year old daughter read it in school and loved it so much she asked for it for Christmas."

Greg (5/5)

Beautiful narrative.

"This story is a real page-turner. I would read a few chapters to my kids before bed time, and they were always sad when it was time to close the book for the night. Edward goes on an amazing adventure and meets some interesting characters. Very descriptive and unique."
