Reviews

The first half of the first third of a great book

"Mr. Rothfuss has a smooth style that's easy to read, a good character voice and a lot of dynamics in his story. But it's 720 pages of setup. Every event is similar to what most fantasy books used to cover in the first 150 pages--and it starts to feel a little repetitive -- or non-unique at least. You know that even he thinks it's a little dull at times, because he repeatedly has sentences along the line of ""something exciting is coming up soon, just wait"" It's very much what I call the ""Netflix approach"". Start with an exciting opening scene and then spend hours in the past with interesting but not really engaging stories. So if you want to read something enjoyable for a week without any thought to a climax or real plot development, it's a great way to fill up hours. But if you want action, there are better options."

If you like clever fantasy and main characters that are sort of little shts… this is for you!

"This is undeniably a slow read, and arguably not much happened… but the writing is so clever and hints at so much to come that i was transfixed the whole time! Can’t wait to read Day 2!"
