Info promotionnelle
"A novel that captures the peculiar landscape of dreams with an accuracy few other authors have come close to. . . . What does recur is [Ishiguro's] exquisitely attuned rendering of human fragility, the tragedy of self-deceit, and the almost unbearable poignancy in people trying, despite setbacks and injured pride, to get things right." —The Paris Review

"With this stunning new novel, cast in the form of a postmodern nightmare, Ishiguro tells a powerful story in which he once again exploits a narrator's utter lack of self-knowledge to create a devastating deadpan irony." —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

"Elegantly written, mischievously funny, teasingly provocative, and enigmatic: Ishiguro's challenging portrayal of the isolated artistic temperament simultaneously reveals its naked contingent humanity. A brilliant novel that will almost certainly be remembered as one of the best of the decade." —Kirkus Reviews

Hard book to read

"I really like Kazuo's writing and have enjoyed some of his other books however i really struggled to get through this and only finished it because he writes so beautifully and I wanted to see how it all resolved (it didn't). The whole book is like a bad dream; the one where you are trying to get somewhere or do something and you get thwarted at every turn. It's a very frustrating book and I'm not sure what the author was trying to accomplish in writing it. Nothing gets explained at the end and you are left feeling very disatisfied. It was just a big waste of time."
