Short good review

"Love the book, very intriguing. Much different from her other book tender is the flesh"

Bataka (4/5)

"Interesting story it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting, but worth the read!"

L. W. (4/5)

I'm obsessed

"""I wonder if God is the hunger behind hunger, and if behind God lurks the hunger for another God. "" I have no words. My mouth hasn't been sewn shut yet but I still have no words. I can't even begin to describe how good this was! The concept. The worldbuilding. The writing. Wow. Just wow. I feel like I drank the entire Creek of Madness."

Lady R. (5/5)

Straight to the point. Again, after reading the book, title takes on a whole new meaning; you want to remain unworthy.

"Writer herself is really talented, pulls you in. Story is very interesting, and the details within this stories setting/works are creative. Writing/story gives you sense of dread at times."

ZoSo (4/5)

Agustina Bazterrica Does it Again!

"This novel was beautifully written, and had me gripped from the first page to the last. If you liked Tender is the Flesh, you’ll love The Unworthy."

Brooke (5/5)

The Unworthy is totally worth it

"I just love Agustina Bazterrica's writing, The story is so good and unique"

Darina (4/5)

Unique Concept, but Felt Underdeveloped

"What drew me to The Unworthy was the unique concept—post-apocalyptic & a religious cult! It’s definitely original and the atmosphere is strong. That said, the book felt a bit too minimal. There was very little world-building, character development, or plot progression. While I understand that this was a deliberate stylistic choice, it left me wanting more depth and context. The story was fairly predictable, and at under 200 pages, I wish it had been expanded. Still, it had emotional moments that hit well, and I found it more enjoyable than Tender is the Flesh!! I bought this book in-store at Coles and was happy to find it available and on sale even though it just came out."

Nancy (3/5)

A must read Novel

"Augustina Bazterrica is an author with a unique voice. The Unworthy is a great addition to her works. Written in a hidden diary style, the novel discusses grief, love, jealousy, religious trauma, misogyny and abuse while navigating life in a convent during the end of the world. This novel brings vivid descriptions and easily reads like a movie. The characters pull you in and leave you wondering what will happen next. If horror lit-fic is a genre you are interested in this is definitely a book to check out. This book can easily be read in one or two sittings and is even worth a re-read. I have read all three of her English translations, and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. Whatever this author puts out I will read."

“Agustina Bazterrica’s climate crisis horror tale explores ideological extremes in times of catastrophe, and how seductive it is to turn self-destructive.”
