Perfect gift for new parents!

"‘The Witching Hour’ is a delightful read aloud, perfect for calming down a child during the unavoidable witching hour! It captures the humor of this time of day, in such a unique setting. The words are magic and bring a calmness and lullaby quality to the story. The illustrations are beautiful – so neat to see everyday family happenings in a fantastical setting, complete with witches, woodland creatures and fairies!"

An adorable and relatable bedtime book!

"THE WITCHING HOUR follows a witchy, forest-dwelling family's efforts to help their cranky baby into sleep with magical and non-magical antics. Gorgeous, lively illustrations beautifully pair with the lyrical, witty text. A consoling, authentic, and mystical perspective on bedtime challenges."

Warm and witchy, perfect new baby gift.

"Striking a perfect balance between chaotic and calm, this is the perfect wind-down-for-bed book. Following a warm and witchy family as they struggle to get their baby through that always tricky pre-bedtime hour, this warm and intimate tale would make a unique new-baby gift, especially for an autumn arrival. With its beautifully rendered illustrations briming with warmth and witchy details and its playful and rhythmic text, The Witching Hour is sure to delight."

Prepare to be charmed

"I was utterly charmed by this family of witches trying to settle their caterwauling baby at bedtime. The story is relatable, funny, and tender all at once. Clever and precise language, sprinkled liberally with humour (“minds change, moods change, diapers change…diapers change again”), makes The Witching Hour a read-aloud that will appeal to young children and parents alike. Siblings can giggle alongside their parents at the antics of the baby and the loving but ever-so-slightly frantic efforts of the witch family who, despite their magic, still have to endure the frustrations and fussiness of the witching hour. Highly recommended."

"Each scene looks awash with magic, with detailed strokes created on vibrant backgrounds. Together, the art and the delightfully alliterative text result in a tale that’s both mystical and intimate." —Kirkus Reviews

"Jennifer Harris and Adelina Lirius have captured the [witching hour] phenomenon so perfectly in their new picture book that you and your children will be under their spell. . . . Lirius’s fabulous pictures evoke an entire universe where the fantastic and the familiar are effortlessly blended. Earth colors predominate and the domestic interiors are as welcoming as those in Dutch still paintings. . . . For readers, this home of friendly spider webs, baskets of knitting yarn, and a quaint wood stove, seems uncannily real. For the duration of the story, you will be living among friends, and the supernatural is just, natural." —Imaginary Elevators

"[A] very sweet story about family coming together to help the youngest settle down. . . . Surprisingly, Jennifer Harris never makes the story ridiculous or uproariously funny. She keeps it charming and familial and affectionate. Any parent or older sibling will understand and feel for this family at this witching hour." —CanLit for LittleCanadians

"Whimsical tones accompany the difficulties of the last hours before bedtime to form an adorable read. . . . There's a lovely sense of care and warmth as the witches go out of their way to comfort the baby. . . . Colorful illustrations make each scene inviting and keep the atmosphere light. These hold fun details, which invite readers/listeners to come back and explore each moment again on their own." —Bookworm for Kids

"I love the cleverness of this story by making the witches be the parents of a little baby experiencing the witching hour. It’s a lovely play on words and creates a wonderful story to be shared in the fall when the witches and ghouls are out in full force." —Storytime with Stephanie

"This delightful book will entertain your little one, especially if they love Halloween." —Story Monsters Ink
