The story follows the adventures of the Marquis de Saint-Chamans and his wife, the Marquise Pauline de Saint-Chamans, as they attempt to rescue the Marquis's mother from revolutionary France. The Marquis, a royalist, is one of the many French aristocrats who have fled the country after the Revolution, and his mother remains trapped in Paris, living in constant fear of being arrested and executed by the Revolutionary government.Determined to save his mother, the Marquis embarks on a dangerous mission to smuggle her out of France, accompanied by his brave and resourceful wife, Pauline. The couple face numerous challenges as they navigate the political turmoil of the time, encountering spies, revolutionaries, and other adversaries. As they work together to save the Marquis's mother, their love and loyalty to each other are tested.
