Out in the wilderness, at the Crossroads Inn, halfway between here and there, young Thomas Thomas is living an ideal life. When he isn't in the stables caring for the horses and other livestock, he's out exploring the surrounding woods and fishing in the river that flows through it. But on the evening of his thirteenth birthday, fate and a raging snowstorm blow evil into his once happy home. A mysterious stranger, a little black book and a diabolical curse condemn poor Tom to an extra long and lonely life. It is only when he meets Hannah Lee Brown that his world brightens and he finally has a friend. Should Thomas Thomas dare hope that he might once again find happiness? Or will he and his new best freind be forever cursed?
